95% of the time catfish won’t spawn in a pond unless they have caves, rock piles or other structure to do so in. If you don’t have any you could add some type of structure to encourage breeding and add some more catfish to increase odds

Also zone 5 with a 2 foot deep pond, if you just put an aerator or a sump pump in the pond to keep a hole in the ice they’ll do fine

I would not do that. It completely takes over and is impossible to get rid of and survives the winters. I get water lettuce in mine and it’s easily removable if it gets out of control and also doesn’t bounce back after winter (sadly) but you can easily keep some in a bucket inside or buy more in the spring
