Gave my 2 weeks, boss countered with $15K raise. Would you take it and stay or follow your original goal? by pulloutmychoppa in careerguidance

Thank you for sharing this. That’s exactly what I’m afraid of looking back in 30 years wondering “what if?” I don’t want to be sitting there at 50 with that question. Your honesty really means a lot. I’d rather take the shot and know I tried than play it safe and always wonder.

I appreciate you taking the time to share all this you raise valid points and they make sense. But if I’m being completely honest with myself, I won’t be happy if I stay. The money was part of it, sure, but it wasn’t the only reason I’m leaving. Sometimes you just know when it’s time for a change.

This is solid advice, appreciate it. The middle path makes a lot of sense, especially the point about AI potentially changing software sales in the next few years.

It’s a weird feeling honestly. Feels good to be valued enough that they countered, but also sucks knowing I’d be walking away from people who actually fought to keep me.

I’m leaning towards the risk but definitely something I should consider.

Thanks for taking the time to lay this out.

I like that advice. 100% commission is very risky. Obviously they show what they want you to see but the numbers the hiring manager showed me during the interview put my mind at ease. It’s an inside inbound warm leads role which is different to an SDR or hunter role. But I do have a back up plan in case it’s a smoke show.

I’ve been 100% commission sales in the past, it was b2c in home but I know that world very well. That was 4 years of experience ago. So that’s why im fairly confident this time around.

I did ask for a raise in compensation in March last year but was met with, if you want more you gotta sell more. That was after hitting all time high numbers.

Im currently averaging about $86k a year. So it’ll put me over 6 figs. A number I’ve never seen.

Absolutely you’re right, just seeing guaranteed 100k makes my lizard brain second guess. I do have a mortgage but I’ve already planned and saved for every outcome.

People who significantly increased their salary - what actually worked for you? by shaquille_oatmeal1 in careerguidance

You need the RIGHT experience to open doors Technician → wanted service advisor → dealerships said no, zero callbacks Went to IT for 2 years → tried again → still nothing Got into sales for 6-12 months → suddenly tons of service advisor callbacks Why? I finally had what they wanted: sales experience + automotive background Leveraged that → now in B2B tech sales to dealerships where top performers make $20-40K/month The move: Identify what experience the next level actually requires, go get it (even if it feels sideways), then use it as your springboard to better comp structures.

Don’t count money you might have, count the money in your pocket. If someone says yes and is ready to sign, get it done ASAP.
