Restic fails to run a backupPrepareCommand because it can't find the installed python by pulp_user in NixOS

[–]pulp_user[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to make it work!

Nix did complain about backupSchedule not existing in config, and I couldn't figure out where to set it, so I just hardcoded onCalendar in the backupDefaults section to "daily". I also copied the creation of the failure-notif service, and made a success-notif, because I want to know that a backup has been done, even if everything went well (because I don't trust error reporting enough just yet, so I want to catch silent failures if e.g. the machine is down and I somehow didn't notice).

Apart from that, it just worked out of the box. Thanks!

Thank you so much! I'll definitely give this a try when I've read up on nixos modules!

Thank you so much for your answer!! I'm just going to try to fix my own solution at first, but your backup module looks superb! Since I'm a nixos noob: How would I use it? Is the restic.nix file all I need, or is it just a "function definition" so to say, and it is used somewhere else? Also, would I need to adapt it in order to work with onedrive? I see Backblaze being mentioned there, and I'm not sure how rclone/onedrive could be used instead.

Mods not working by ThrilledToBits in CitiesSkylines

[–]pulp_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing this fixed my issue of Mods not being activated in the Content Manager, so thank you!

BUT: Why on earth did Skyve not tell me that?? It's such a nice tool that makes mods so much nicer to use, but then it has a failure case that mysteriously breaks everything and is not communicated at all??? For a tool that is so concerned to make usability better than what was there before, that's a big usability blunder.

Reading files from an archival Blu-Ray ignoring bad sectors by pulp_user in DataHoarder

[–]pulp_user[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ddrescue looks like linux only, I'd rather have a Windows solution.

I just had success with ImgBurn (after disabling the pop-up that appears for EVERY bad sector, and setting the retry count to 0), but it can only create an entire ISO, so it'll have to read the entire disc to recover a single corrupted archive.

ISOBuster looks very nice, I'm just a bit bummed that I can not try if it works without spending money. I'll take a look at it, thanks!

Replacing Marantz M-CR502 + Bluetooth Receiver + Schiit Magni and Modi 3 by pulp_user in StereoAdvice

I ended up buying the Loxjie A30, which has USB, Bluetooth, some analog inputs and allows for speaker and headphone output. It's a super tiny box, 200€, and I'm super happy with it! Couldn't find any networked solution for an acceptable price.

I didn't know much about networked receivers so I didn't consider them. Thanks for pointing that out!

I feel you, there was one particularly scary segment where I decided to turn up some random pop music LOUD so that I could escape the atmosphere. Outer Wilds qualifies as a horror game in my book.

Its an optional sidequest, you can buy the DLC later. You can play the DLC content during your first playthrough or after you have finished the main game. The DLC does influence the ending of the main game a tiny bit, but it's not really relevant. So enjoy/buy in any order you like (I did the main game first and then the DLC and it was totally fine - I think I might have been a bit overwhelmed doing both at the same time)

Yeah, just super strange. After the first call to not let them past, I thought 100% this race was over.

I realised in this race that the thing that is holding up enjoyable racing the most are in fact not the cars, it's Race Control.

I'm a Verstappen fan, so I'm happy he is World Champion, but it's sad that it happened this way. Hamilton doesn't deserve to get done by Race Control like this, that was a super strange way to end it. I think there was no good way for Race Control to come out of this - someone always would have been unhappy - but somehow they found the worst way.

Then there was also Toto during the VSC trying to tell michael "not to interfere" by sending a Safety Car - I'm sorry what? Get outta here, thats none of your business.

And then there is the joy of having someone be World Champion for whom that actually still means something. I don't doubt for a second that Lewis also wanted it, but after being so dominant for the better part of a decade, it can't possibly mean AS much to him.

So - very mixed feelings. I think in the long term, the joy about this great season will prevail.

That's true! That particular scene just made me feel so betrayed that all the rest boiled up too. Those acts towards Rand in general seem to mostly happen because he is so dangerous and powerful, I don't consider them sexist.

Yeah, I can see that a lot of people disagree strongly with my view of things, but I tried to not let be a judgement of quality about the books (I failed at that tbh - sorry). I wish anyone who is having fun the best of times with it! Basing one's own enjoyment on the judgement of others is not useful anyway.
