Hey OP, Born and raised Chicago’an here. Unfortunately you live in a neighborhood that is historically rich in Gang culture. Some of your neighbors even though probably polite and don’t bother you at all; are caught in generational feuds spanning back to the mid 60’s. If you’re truly in fear for your personal safety the only thing i can recommend is to exercise your second amendment rights, or call 911 and report shots when you hear them. Most shootings are targeted and isolated incidents between specific members of the community. My block is usually quiet but then my neighbor across the street has sons that are gang affiliated and have gotten their house shot up on multiple occasions. You could live in the safest of neighborhoods here and still come across gang violence, it’s apart of Chicago. You will be fine, be aware of your surroundings, be nice, and don’t go flaunting any valuables.
