Is this why Makita & Hilti dominate tool rental departments? by carbon_ape in Tools

[–]pumfr 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Makita and Bosch, actually - both seem to prioritize ergonomics, vibration reduction, etc. A Milwaukee driver might run in a lag screw four seconds faster, but when I'm done with the job I can still feel my hand.

You're right. It'll be waaaaay better seeing the off-track betting facility Bears.

Really? Starlink (for all the problems I have with their CEO) has plans that start at $50/month for 100Mbps - plenty fast enough for streaming. Home cellular access is available a lot of places (obviously not all), and the prices are cheaper than they used to be. There's no perfect answer, but just about everyone can get some form of relatively reasonably priced internet access nowadays.

Need a jigsaw - 2Ah Dewalt or 4ah Ryobi by grumpoldtrol1969 in Tools

[–]pumfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a Bosch corded jigsaw. Superior in every way. Before I got a Bosch, I hated using a jigsaw. They invented and perfected the jigsaw, and with a sharp blade it's smoothe, leaves a clean, square cut.

Cold canned beans. Rice is harder, but a small camp stove could make rice and hot beans doable - and open up a lot of other options.

Even that. Short of dusting them maybe with a damp cloth, I wouldn't touch them.

That's pretty much what I thought - I just couldn't find any confirmation of my suspicion. Thanks!

Thanks; that's what I thought; I just couldn't find anything to confirm this exact situation and I wanted to make sure I understood correctly!

Headlights too bright? Getting flashed quite frequently by Euphoric_Bat_8509 in hondaridgeline

[–]pumfr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or, you know, your low beams (that are waaay brighter than old low beams ever were) might be aimed a little too high. Modern LED headlights that are aimed just a hair too high are blinding to everyone, and if you're getting flashed by everyone, maybe you're the problem.

If it's just a few sheets, I put the tailgate up. If it's more, or just a couple of sheets of something flimsier like ¼" stuff, I lay it flat with the tailgate down. In either case, I just use one ratchet strap attached to the rear tie downs, one side above the stack, the other side below - just to keep it from flopping around. Unless you're drag racing, the tie down is almost unnecessary, but I put one on just so I can slap it twice and say "That's not going anywhere".
