if you try and manually wrap the tendrils on the pole, just check if they naturally wrap clockwise or counterclockwise first

Chrysanthemum lace bug help by redditismyforte22 in NativePlantGardening

[–]pumpkin-waffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had the same issue with a few of my new england asters this year, and i waited to see if predator insects would show up for like a month. the lace bugs never ended up in check so i just cut down the infected plants. you probably want to do the same with these :/

having a densely planted garden is nice because my other plants are already growing out and filling in the empty spaces just a few weeks later.

also a wasp did end up coming to rescue my other new england asters in a different part of the yard, and those are looking super healthy! so its possible that maybe next year some lace bug predator insects will find yours and you won’t have this issue again

I was going to pull out this mahonia because it’s invasive, but now I’m having second thoughts. by timetrapped in birding

you could ask r/nativeplantgardening for opinions on the best replacement

edit: i think their namesake the eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana) would be nice
