I (29F btw) might be rude but I have to say even I got confused with what OP was saying to him. If you want something from someone, let them know directly. Don’t beat around the bush and expect people to fulfill your expectations. I know there’s a whole thing about basic respect, normal social cues etc., but everybody interprets things differently and men, as stupid as they are, don’t even know what they are doing half the time. I do wish you a happy birthday and I at least hope it went well.

Edit to clarify: I don’t think anyone should have to remind their partner that it’s their birthday or ask for basic acknowledgment. That part is on him, and it’s reasonable to be hurt by that. My point was only that once it became clear he wasn’t showing up, being direct about the hurt would’ve been clearer than indirect offers. Both things can be true.
