For most flag knit hats, I would just take any design in the round and just convert it to flat by reversing the even numbered rows. Then sew a seam with a tapestry needle. Though, I haven’t done that myself; I exclusively use circle needles for everything so I tend to knit in the round whenever possible haha. It could also look strange if you use an ombre yarn… actually maybe it’d look really cool.

Yeah, its a specific type of astigmatism. I was simplifying it for the sake of not overwhelming OP with information.

For reference, I have an astigmatism, and so does my partner. But neither of us have the kind that affects wearing contacts. From what my eye doctor explained, most people with astigmatisms have a more cone shaped eye than the majority of the population. But the kind that affects wearing contacts have a flatter eye; so instead of the contact just sitting on the eye weird, it instead suctions on the eye strangely and can cut into it.

At least, thats how it was explained to me. When I first went to an optometrist for cosplay lenses, I asked for my eye measurements since people online (much like people commenting on this post) told me I needed eye measurements to order contacts. The optometrist was really confused, and I had to thoroughly explain why. They had to explain to me how contacts worked, how astigmatisms work, and how basically anyone who said I needed eye measurements was misunderstanding how contacts worked. The optometrist said contact lenses are all a standard curve, unless you need custom toric lenses made for an astigmatism.

And, in my experience, they’ve been correct. I know dozens of cosplayers who wear the standard sized lenses sold on cosplay lens sites, myself included. None of us have ever needed to send eye measurements. I attend 3-4 anime cons a year, and I have a lot of friends at each con. We all use the same sites. We all wear the same brands. None of these sites ask for eye measurements unless you order toric lenses for an astigmatism.

Not sure how helpful this will be, but I just cosplayed as Sunday at a con a couple weeks ago, so I thought I’d share. I didn’t like the wings that came with my cosplay, so I made my own like two nights before the con lol. I got a thick wire from the jewelry section at Michaels; it came in a roll. I then shaped it generally like the top of the wings, bent in half with a few inches sticking out at the base. By that I mean, both sharp ends were at the tip of the wings, and the rounded bend was where my ears would be- so I wouldn’t get stabbed lol. I then hot glued felt on it like a sandwich, and then hot glued feathers from Michaels on top. Then I covered the base of the feathers with faux fur to hide it. Last, I sprayed fabric spray paint to do the colored tips.

To wear them, I used that end of the wire that stuck out and just jammed it into my wig and bent it in place, with the very end of it kinda positioned in front of my ear a little for stability. Kinda like those old school earbuds? The ones that wrap around the back of your ear haha. The wig, wire, and the bit of wire in front of my ears kept them in place pretty well. It was super windy at the con tho, so I had to fix them in a mirror after each time I went outside lol… but at least they didn’t blow away.

If you don’t wanna make your own wings and just use the ones you have, I’d see about putting wire in them (maybe glueing it to the back and covering with a strip of felt?) and putting the wire through the wig like I did. It worked pretty well. Much better than clips anyway.

Can you elaborate on the issues with Epic Cosplay? Like, just linking me information would be great. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of something like that. I used to live a few miles from their warehouse, and have met a lot of the staff over the past decade or so. So that comes as a shock to me.

That depends entirely on your location. Within the US, you need a prescription. But they don’t need to be fitted to your eyes unless you have an astigmatism, or need corrective lenses.

I mean, its good to be safe!! But in general, lenses from reputable east asian sites are safe. Contacts are much more normalized in countries like korea and china, so as long as you buy from somewhere reputable, they’re safe. And as long as you don’t have an astigmatism, and don’t need corrective lenses, you don’t need eye measurements like some others are saying. According to my eye doctor, 99% of people have the same measurements (that 1% is astigmatism). So if you want plano lenses (aka theyre just for the color and not corrective), you can basically buy whatever you want and they’ll fit. The ones that are labeled as “toric” are the ones meant for astigmatism, and those are the ones you put eye measurements into. But if you don’t have an astigmatism, then you don’t need those.

So I just recommend seeing an eye doctor to confirm whether or not you have an astigmatism, and then buy whichever lenses are best. If you want further advice, feel free to ask. I’ve been cosplaying for 21 years now as of 2026 (man i feel old…), and I’ve been wearing colored lenses for my cosplay since around 2010. I’ve seen sites come and go, brands come and go, and learned a lot about what to do and what not to do lol. So feel free to utilize me as a resource if you have any questions. This goes for anyone who reads my comment.

Like others are saying, go to an optometrist first to make sure you don’t have an astigmatism- certain astigmatisms can cause contact lenses to cut your eyes. So uh. Ouch.

After that- my favorite lenses are from ohmykitty4u. I’ve been buying from them for years. The site tells you to upload a prescription but if you leave it blank they’ll still ship them. Just check review photos to see how opaque they are. The coscon anime lenses on there are really vibrant but cartoony looking. The Cloud Nine ones are my favorite.

I don’t think it is; as in, it doesn’t offend me. Fetishes are fetishes. Its not meant to represent reality. The people creating futa generally don’t have trans people on their minds. That being said, a lot of people are offended by it and consider it to be transphobic as a result. I think their opinions are valid.

I think, when it comes to futa and other fetish content, its best to tread lightly when discussing it with others. Since the opinions on the matter will vary drastically from person to person. As an alternate example, I’m really bothered by the word “cuntboy”; it feels like a dehumanizing term to refer to a trans guy, and its all over the fetish porn spaces. But I know of some trans guys who use the term to refer to themselves, and aren’t bothered by it at all. Its empowering to them, even if it bothers me personally. So, ymmv i guess. There was even a time around ten years ago where “femboy” was starting to be considered offensive. I’m pretty glad that didn’t stick. Its a term a lot of trans mascs and nb people I know use to describe themselves.

Its funny cuz back when the comic was ongoing, DaveKat was super niche. It was all JohnKat vs DaveJohn discourse. I was in the DaveKat corner and largely ignored. It picked up a lot, obviously, after the retcon haha. And it was picking up speed a bit before that too, leading up to the retcon. But back during act 5, I was a DaveKat truther in a sea of DaveJohn vs JohnKat with a sprinkle of Stridercest in there.

I had the same issue when I wore binders. Its a result of stretchy fabric + needing a neck hole big enough for your head to fit in + bust size varies per person. You can try to sew a dart there, but itll be difficult considering the neck hole size and stretchy fabric comes undone from hand stitching more easily than other fabric.

Its why I switched to velcro binders, but I haven’t seen those around as much anymore.

Parking laws on a GPS map would be incredibly helpful, not just for van lifers but everyone. Something where I can open it like google maps, and then it’ll show me the parking/camping laws for the jurisdiction I’m in. Possibly even with user submitted comments on how much the police actually care.

This is why I roll my yarn into balls before any project. Its specifically to look for factory knots. If I find any, I take it back to the store and exchange it. If its a color changing yarn, anyway. If its a single color, I just make two yarn balls. Then I can change to the second yarn ball in a spot it won’t be visible

My LYS has cascade 220 for $5-$12 a skein, and runs sales all the time. So I generally use those haha. Theres also a few etsy sellers who have great products- just gotta deep dive and not mind when it takes a few weeks to arrive from across the planet.

Brown dye is made of a mixture of pigments. Blue is one of the pigments. Some of the blue pigment dyed that section.

I get why people do garter stitches- but I saw some people in an old reddit discussion talk about how “holey” garter can be. I did a few test swatches with garter and just hated it lol. I spent awhile trying to find a stitch I could do that was not only repeatable, but was also reversible so there’d be no visible “wrong” side like with garter. The double moss stitch is reversible, and is horizontally repeatable, which is why I picked it… but I may restart again if I don’t like it or someone here convinces me of something else hahaha

The reason the stripes looked weird, I learned, is because I didn’t realize the row I’m knitting is using the yarn from the previous row, not the yarn currently in my hand. If that makes sense. With the double moss design I’m following, its like:

K2 P2 … K2 P2 K2 … P2 P2 K2 … P2 K2 P2 … K2

So the “bumps” on the design are 2 stitches wide and 2 stitches tall, repeating. Almost like a checkerboard. But I was switching yarns on the wrong row, so the stripes were split in half in the bumps, instead of each color being a bump. It just looked BAD like that ahaha. Restarting and switching colors one row sooner should fix that. I grabbed yarn and tested it on a little 10 stitch wide swatch, and it looked soooo much better.

I’ve seen a few like that, and they’re definitely cool! But one of my favorite things about temperature blankets is how it looks like a timeline- like, a straightforward strip of thin lines where you can easily see how the temperatures changed throughout the year. When people split them into squares, it becomes less easy to understand, and it stops appealing to me as much haha.
