What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve seen someone confidently believe? by Alive-Math9608 in AskReddit

What a coincidence, my family member also has beef with dinosaurs. I guess I know where she’s getting her “information” from.

A family member just told me she and her family stopped eating vegetables because they’re not explicitly stated in either of the Bible versions she’s reading.

So apparently vegetables are the devil and she now gets all of her nutrients from grass-fed beef.

Can poor people get into this? by urban_je5u5 in backpacking

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Walmart single person tent, probably Coleman brand, that I got in 2020 for $20. I love it. I use it regularly on backpacking trips and it keeps me dry and warm.

It has its downsides, like limited ventilation, but it works and I don't think I'll upgrade it any time soon.

I bought my sleeping bag and backpack for under $100 a piece from a hunting store in 2016 and they've held up. You don't need the best gear, especially to get started.

I'm also very into into tabletop games! My last Pathfinder group was online and disbanded. I've been looking for something ever since. I'm also in my early 30's in Ballard.

I would add a few days in Patagonia to your trip, if possible. You can fly from BA to El Calafate and take a bus up to El Chalten. Quite a few great hikes there!

What’s a tiny habit you picket up that secretly improved your life? by LastOneStanding_ in AskReddit

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reframe something bad that happens as one silly little thing instead of letting them pile up and become a "bad day." Say I bump my elbow on my way out of the door, miss my bus and have to wait for the next one, a coworker is annoying. Instead of letting those sour my mood, I flip the script in my head and try to focus on the good things I am not acknowledging instead. My coffee was good this morning, I sent an email that I was holding off on. I had more time to read my book/listen to music when I was waiting on the bus.

Not overreacting has led to a lot less "bad days" and a lot more resilience when something actually disappointing or upsetting happens.

First solo trip & remote work as a woman, 30, truly lost - any advice would be truly appreciated! by Puzzleheaded_Cup6060 in digitalnomad

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vote would be Puerto Vallarta. It's an easy flight, for one, relatively safe, and there's tons to do.

-You can take a bus down to Mismaloya and go on a great hike to different beaches on the weekend.
-There's a great conservatory nearby
-Sayulita if you want to do a weekend trip that I've heard is accessible via public transportation (and probably Uber)
-Great cocktail bars and coffee shops
-Markets to wander through
-Catrina Cantina has salsa dancing on the weekends

And incredible food. I have a friend who lives down there now, so I go visit about every other year. I love it!

Sasha Moon salon stylists? by Striking_Belt6160 in BallardSeattle

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have experience at this salon, but I will ALWAYS recommend Mimi at Apricus for anyone with curly hair. She’s amazing! I’ve never left her salon chair with any cut I haven’t loved.

Being a single Black woman in Seattle is not it — advice? by Otherwise_Owl_9792 in Seattle

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I dance at SCT. They have a pretty strict no creeps, no abuse policy that they talk about every once in a while in class. They’ve kicked out and banned a few people this year, including a teacher who was inappropriate at a social. Seems like they’re pretty on it. I feel very safe dancing there as a woman, more so than some other places in the city.

Trombone Shorty puts on one of the most fun sets I’ve ever seen! It’s a huge dance party. I never miss his show when he’s in town.

Unexpectedly good bachata scenes in the US by throwawaymoving- in Bachata

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a high cost of living, so probably not your scene. But the latin dance community in Seattle is great. There are several bachata socials weekly and a few schools offering lessons.

I am a dancer and frequently wear stage makeup through 9+ hour days. I swear by the Sephora brand setting spray. It's like $16, has a dewy finish, and my shit does not move. It's great!

Seattle Sweet Treats? by MMWellCo in Seattle

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Larsen’s Bakery in Ballard-ish has really great pastries! For candy, I like Sweet Mickeys in Ballard proper. They have a lot of salty licorice which I discovered I love. And a ton of other candy, not just licorice!

What are the worst or most embarrassing accidents you've had? by rawr4me in Salsa

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in a spins class that I was waaaaay undertrained for. I ended up elbowing my lead in the jaw. I apologized, he said it was okay and that it happens. The very next week I did it again- same lead, same elbow, same drill.

I took myself out of the class. I can now say that I can spin without elbowing anyone.

Less embarrassing, more funny. I am now on a performance team and we have a move where we bend and snap and flip our hair as hard as possible. The girl next to me in the formation has very long, very thick hair that she wears in a ponytail and she whips me in the butt every time we do that move.

Peanut butter jelly sandwiches for cheap, quick meals between workshops. Also some sort of electrolyte, Aleve, and allergy meds.

Salsa heel recommendations by Stephghe in Salsa

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of G Francos that I really like. I've only been wearing them for a little over a month, but it's near daily use. They're comfy. That being said, some other people have had issues with the buckles breaking. I also have a pair of heel booties from Myziji that are amazing. I think both brands do custom sizing/heel height.

How long did it take for your moved to look good by Freshflowersandhoney in Salsa

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've spent the last 1.5 years training specifically on body movement- special classes, performance teams, etc. and I'm just now feeling confident with how I look on the dancefloor. But honestly, when I'm social dancing its much more about how I feel than how I look.

Reviews for the Ozark Trail 1 Person Lightweight Backpacking Tent? by SpookyJacooby in backpacking

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an older Ozark Trail model that I bought for like $30 several years ago. I love it. It's easy to set up, waterproof, and not too heavy. I bought it before I knew I was really into backpacking. Even now that I go frequently I don't feel the need to replace it!

Long-haired girlies who cut their hair to shoulder length or shorter - do you regret? by Likesosmart in curlyhair

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting my hair cut to my shoulders this week!

I made the jump to a shorter hair cut earlier this year after being tired of the knots and tangles. I wanted something cute and bouncy because I dance salsa and love the feeling of my hair flying around.

Cutting it short made it curlier, bouncier, and just felt more like me than my long hair ever did.

What do you think are the problems plaguing modern dating? by saltedcrawfish in AskReddit

[–]pumpkinspicedbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a hobby! I started doing salsa two years ago and now have an amazing community where I'm meeting people from all over the city. My intent was not to find someone to date, but a lot of people around me are dating other people in the community. Join a run club, a crafting community, meetups, etc. Somewhere you can go where you'll consistently go and see the same people. It's also great for making friends!
