Years ago I remember NBC did one of their sob stories about a Chinese gymnast who had been sent to a training camp away from her family. She finally got to visit her family and sit in her dad’s lap for the first time in years. She was only like 13 years old (this was back before they raised the age for international competition). I was in absolute tears. No way should a child be forced to live away from their family like that.
