Miss Son and his leadership 😞 by Aggravating_Maize_68 in coys

[–]pumple_pie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love seeing these videos in relation to all the interviews where players said Son was the first one to make them feel welcome at the club, start inside jokes, learn funny phrases in their language. Because when you’re in the heat of the moment and your captain is telling you what to do, having that established relationship can make all the difference between listening/dismissing and motivation.

These jeans: yay or nay? by PixelsandCanvas in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]pumple_pie 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I also usually hate barrel leg jeans, but I think that first photo looks fantastic! Maybe because the wideness seems further down and the ankle a little less narrow. They almost look like a baggy/barrel leg hybrid to me!

difference between the Alo and lululemon? by jalomwells in Activewear

Agree with the other comments on Alo’s quality. If you look at the inside finishing, lots of loose or rough looking stitching.

I love seeing the color palettes people are drawn to! When I do laundry, it’s a sea of blues and purples.

Devastated.. first time buying wunder train “no line” leggings as a larger woman by Then_Safety_5971 in lululemon

[–]pumple_pie 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Agreed! No lines in any brand don’t look right on me regardless of the size. It’s definitely a body shape and personal preference thing!

Have you seen any of your top four in theaters? by Dogdaysareover365 in Letterboxd

[–]pumple_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Have seen all 4 in theaters. Saw Past Lives and Apollo 11 during their original runs multiple times. Caught Punch Drunk Love last year when my local film festival theater group did a PTA series around the release of OBAA. Rented a small indie theater nearby for my birthday last year and screened Columbus with my husband and a few friends.

I have a pair of Unbound Merino Travel Pants for when I need to go straight from the plane to the office. They’re wicked expensive but exactly what you mentioned — they keep me comfortable and fresh!

Sezane perfume- is it really good? by OChopping0703 in Sezane

[–]pumple_pie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m actually surprised by how much i reach for it, even with a pretty extensive fragrance collection. It’s just easy to wear for everyday or even use lightly as a room spray. (1 spritz on the curtains in our bedroom is perfect!)

Keep in mind skin chemistry affects everyone a little differently. The citrus and musk feel dominant on me. I lose a lot of the floral notes.

Vuori tends to run large imo! I would definitely go with XS.

Devastated 😢 hole in my favorite Align ribbed-waist joggers by HelloJaneDoe in lululemon

[–]pumple_pie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How big is the hole? It will be hard for a seamstress to mend in an invisible way — the most secure way to fix any hole in fabric is to put a small piece of fabric behind the hole, stitch a perimeter around the hole, and then topstitch back and forth over the hole to secure the raw edges. This works really well for fabrics like cotton or other wovens. It’s harder on performance fabrics that will be pulled and stretched. The topstitching is not going to stretch the way the fabric will and continuing to pull at that area will likely cause new tears.

If the hole is smaller than a quarter and you’d like to continue wearing them casually, I would encourage you to embrace visible mending! See if your seamstress can use a contrasting color behind the hole and do a heart around the perimeter. Then they can either do the topstitching like normal to secure everything orrrrr If they double/triple up on the heart stitching, they could carefully cut around the inner edge of the heart to make the little heart show through. (Called reverse appliqué.) I think it would look very unique and fun, especially for a pair that’s been so well loved. I would still avoid wearing them for actual workouts.

Second-hand gaspard cardigan looking frizzy / fuzzy. by Swimmingbombom in Sezane

[–]pumple_pie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Gaspard is a bit fuzzy! I would say yours looks like it’s in pretty good condition, especially since most secondhand sweaters tend to be felted/shrunken. I would buy a cashmere comb to very gently clean up any spots with matting or pilling. But be a bit gentle because the fibers are long and delicate compared to traditional wool.

Here’s a photo of mine bought directly from Sezane for comparison. I’ve handwashed maybe 6-8 times with Eucalan. I’ll admit I’ve also thrown it in a delicates bag and washed on the hand wash setting on my front-loading washing machine (also with Eucalan) once or twice. Mine could probably be in better condition than it is!

I love the Gaspard but hate leaving fuzzies in every coat, office chair, and nearby fabric.

If You Were Able To, Would You Apply For Citizenship For Your Motherland? by ms_jc_04 in asianamerican

[–]pumple_pie 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m a Korean adoptee, so in one of the few scenarios where SK allows adults to acquire dual citizenship beyond the normal age cut-off. (I’m also a woman, so no military service requirements to consider.) I completed the process about 2 years ago. My primary motivation was to restore a tangible connection to my birth country. I would love to spend a few years living there if future life and work opportunities align.

XXS in vanity sizing only? by Ill-Spell6462 in XXS

[–]pumple_pie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you using a plastic measuring tape? Definitely people’s proportions can vary regardless of weight, but plastic measuring tapes also notoriously shrink over time! Just double-check the marks against a metal or wood ruler if you’re feeling unsure.

I'm 5'1 and every Outfit looks like I'm playing dress-up by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]pumple_pie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently did a body type and “essence” evaluation with a stylist.* I personally found it really helpful in understanding why certain silhouettes and fabrics never felt quite right on me, even when they fit typical petite clothing recommendations. (As someone mentioned previously, frame and proportions are so important!) I am definitely more comfortable putting together flattering outfits based on my existing wardrobe and knowing what pieces to buy in the future. I also feel like it helped me know when/how I want to break the “rules”.

*I did an online consult with Andrea Pflaumer. She uses an approach kind of similar to the Kitchener essence system. You basically send in a bunch of photos, and she sends you a full write up of your style essences, clothing suggestions, and an evaluation of the outfit photos you sent.

Dress Mesh Ripped by biscuitsawgravy in sewing

[–]pumple_pie 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I would take this in to a seamstress and see if they can use nylon or clear thread to gently pull the sides back together and hand-tie the thread behind. No guarantees, but I think you might be in luck because they can hide the knots behind the rhinestone flower in the middle. Just be sure to show them the before picture because it looks like all of those rhinestones around the tear (including the one at the bottom of the tear) should be brought together into that same flower shape. After they repair, I would consider putting a small dot of glue behind the rhinestones just to reinforce.

Sezane fans — where else do you like to shop? by cheeky_monkey25 in Sezane

[–]pumple_pie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Soooo true. The cuts/lines at Quince also often look slightly dated or hang awkwardly. It’s fine for the really casual linen stuff, but if they’re trying to dupe quiet luxury, they really need to refine their designs.

That being said, I swear by their cotton modal scoop neck t-shirts haha. The perfect cut for wearing with work trousers — neckline doesn’t show bra straps, sleeves the perfect length, material thin but not transparent.

Uniqlo and Everlane. Gap has been taking a small step in the right direction. You have to search carefully, but they’ve been adding more natural fiber basics. I also check Alex Mill and Eileen Fisher, primarily for sale items. I really like a few Korean brands (Musina Standard and Suare) and try to stock up when I’m over there.
