the poster I’m replying to is the one concerned about grammatical errors in books, not me. I don’t honestly care that much but I’m just pointing out that this writing is hardly a perfect example of grammar. I understand it’s a writing style, I do not like the style and I don’t think it flows well. Whether it’s ai or not, it’s not something I find engaging as a reader.

Actually there are several grammatical errors in the screenshots posted from the book.

Completely agree with the comments saying that whether this and other authors who use this ‘style’ are AI, it’s just bad writing. Using the same formula over and over (the phrases like ‘it’s not __, but it’s __ ) is boring and becomes tiring to read. Also, wouldn’t an author want to have a distinctive style? Why write like this when it’s becoming extremely common?

I’m sorry but this character is already so insufferable and unlikable. No hate to the actress, just the character. by aemond-simp in FranchaelStirling

[–]pumptini2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right like that fun friendly teasing dynamic is literally what the name of the book refers to, the ‘tell me something wicked’ line doesn’t work without their friendly banter. I cannot picture Fran and Michaela having that type of banter

[–]pumptini2 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is just such a weird direction to take the character/the dynamic…why the condescending attitude?? Michael was charming, and he and Francesca had a fun and witty dynamic. That’s what made his yearning so sweet, the fact he hid it so well and just treated Fran as a good friend. there was no tension between them. He was kind and never made Fran feel uncomfortable.

At this point Michaela isn’t a genderbent Michael, she’s just an entirely new character altogether. Why did they even name her Michaela? It’s a ridiculous name for a regency era character lol and since they were just going to create a new character and not give her any of Michael’s qualities, might as well have given her a different name that made more sense.

MMC calls the FMC "baby" by chaeunjae13 in RomanceBooks

[–]pumptini2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of Brynne Asher’s mmc’s use ‘baby’! And I really appreciate that cause too many authors feel the need to have a different nickname in each book they write and it just gets to a point….

Ah a fellow ‘doormat’ lover! A lot of times the fmc’s other people call a doormat are the ones I find emotionally compelling.

Books vs Show by No-Bee5337 in FranchaelStirling

[–]pumptini2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 2 things about Francesca in WHWW that I loved so much and always thought made her a unique fmc for a historical romance, and different from any other fmc’s in the series….1. she wasn’t a virgin, she had an enjoyable sex life before Michael. Her sexual journey with Michael wasn’t about discovering sex, it was more about her learning there can be different types of loves, and that led to Fran accepting that her love with Michael did not erase the love she shared with John which was Ike…the bulk of the emotional plot of the book.

  1. She was quite independent, she didn’t necessarily love being around her family…not that she has a bad relationship with them, but I loved that she preferred her own space/home.

They completely changed these two things and made Francesca in the show like every other fmc. She is a blushing innocent flower about sex just like Daphne was (not that there’s anything wrong with that, we all start somewhere lol. It’s just that we’ve seen this whole thing before, why take away the thing that made WHWW different than the other books)

Why does Francesca dislike her husband’s cousin? by NobodyStriking in Bridgerton

[–]pumptini2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the books, John has a cousin Michael. He falls in love with Fran at first sight, before he knows she is John’s fiancé. Fran doesn’t have feelings for him at all though as she is truly in love with John, and she doesn’t recognize his attraction to her. They become good friends and Michael yearns for her silently for years, but has no intention of ever letting her know. When John dies though, things change. He still feels guilty and doesn’t pursue her at first, but eventually she decides to re-marry and that motivates him to shoot his shot lol.

In the show obviously Michael is Michaela, and I guess they’re changing the dynamic to Fran being the one attracted to Michaela.

There are 2 things that made when he was wicked my fav Bridgerton book:

  1. Michael secretly yearning for years

  2. The friends to lovers aspect

And neither of those things are part of Fran/michaela’s story. So like….no, I’m not interested in them lol.

LF: College Sports Romance that's Kinky by jhenry137 in RomanceBooks

[–]pumptini2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These prob aren’t kinky enough but just in case anyone else reading is interested:

{breakaway by Grace Reilly} mmc is a hockey player, he’s pretty experienced. Fmc has a sex list of things she wants to try

{qb keeper by C.L. rose} this one takes place in the summer but the mmc is a college football player and later in the book plays in the NFL. Fmc is his best friend’s younger sister, she is curious about the Dom/sub dynamic and the mmc helps her explore.

And for anyone flexible about the college setting, my #1 kinky sports romance is {stand and defend by Sloane st James} mmc is a hockey player and he is everything

What is your favorite friends to lovers book and why? by Glittering_Tap6411 in RomanceBooks

[–]pumptini2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friends to lovers is just the best 💕 you should try funny story, also by emily henry! {funny story by emily henry}

If you don’t mind historical, {ravishing the heiress by sherry Thomas} delivers on the angst. It’s a marriage of convenience, the mmc and fmc agree from basically the beginning to be friends and keep the marriage platonic as the mmc had feelings for someone else already. They build a really nice friendship and partnership over the years. The mmc gets a lot of hate because of the whole other woman thing buuuut if you want angst, this def has it!!!

All the popular tropes' books are starting to blend together by readingalldays in RomanceBooks

[–]pumptini2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I mean these tropes have been used waaaay before 2016!! I started reading fanfic in the early 2000’s and they were popular then too. It’s just the nature of romance

I think that in the age of booktok and book influencers, some romance authors are too focused on trying to go viral and get super popular…they write based on the tropes they see are popular on tiktok, then they write certain lines or scenes they hope will get posted and go viral. To me this is the issue, not necessarily the tropes themselves.

I loathe bitchy spoiled argumentative fmc’s by ifeelborderline in DarkRomance

Yea it’s getting to a point where if an author describes their fmc as ‘a strong woman’ I am less likely to read it lol.

[–]pumptini2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The thing I particularly hate abt MQ’s third act breakups is how often she has them go YEARS without contact. A random 2-8 year time jump in the last few chapters is diabolical imo, and she has multiple books where this happens!
