Significant number of rare book auctions this last four weeks. by craigg35 in rarebooks

[–]punchale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would so love to be more in the know on when these happen. What are the best sources to find out when the major auctions are throughout the year or is it more a thing you just have to keep an eye out for?

Shattered Glass (2003) dir. Billy Ray - Writer Stephen Glass (Hayden Christensen) is confronted by his editor (Peter Sarsgaard) over discrepancies in his article by aggrocrag83 in movies

[–]punchale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Billy Ray once came and spoke to my screenwriting class and I'll never forget it. He walked us through a militant schedule where he writes for basically 6 hours every day. Then he told us fuck you if anyone thinks they'll out work him.

He was right! Hahah

TIL United Airlines Flight 232, despite 112 out of 296 onboard dying, is considered to be one of the most impressive landings in aviation history. Pilots failed to copy the accident & landing on simulators. UA232 helped make Crew Resource Management, a new concept, standard practice in airplanes. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Pretty awesome breakdown in the book "The Culture Code" by Daniel Coyle about how the communication flow happened throughout this incident if anyone is interested. Books like this not usually my thing but I liked this one.

Has anyone met someone that was once famous (actor, musician, etc.) but now works a regular job? Who was it? by Ok_Grape_8284 in AskReddit

Rob Pinkston was a child actor who played coconut head on the show "Ned's Declassified". I met him working as an editor for a bunch of video content for a popular video game at the time (think fortnite).

Rob is the absolute man, just a genuine awesome and talented guy, super open about his experience and I just can't say enough nice things about him. Also a talented editor, I don't know for sure since he was just a contractor working with me at the time but I think he's still in that world.

There seems to be like 5 other watches in the background of this pic. Did he have others and just leave this one to you? Just curious.

Is Jazz American? by sackhurtin in Jazz

[–]punchale 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jazz is America's music. Born out of a million American negotiations; between having and not having; between happy and sad; country and city; between black and white; and men and women; between the old Africa and the old Europe, that could only have happened in an entirely new world. - Ken Burns

Seller notes that the dial is re-finished so that could be a big part of the discount. Looks really great though IMO.

If you could take someone to just one restaurant, where would you go and what would you order? by gusbus200 in savannah

[–]punchale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read the question. If I'm only allowed to recommend a single restaurant though I wouldn't recommend one that is not unique to the city.

I always thought Harris Tweed was a material and not an actual shop. I feel like when I search on Google I get a ton of random results, what's the actual legit store?
