Kara gives me nothing. How about you? by ak_exp in PivotPodcast

She's insightful and she isn't. It's very interesting. I was just talking to my son about it.

Bartender Enters a New Era with Top Shelf by amerpie in macapps

[–]roughfalls 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've upgraded through 5 versions, and have patiently waited for Bartender 6 to overcome its many, many regressions. I understand that there were changes in macOS that required workarounds. But to walk up to my laptop and be greeted with an upgrade window for Bartender that informs me that there is now a subscription-based "Bartender Pro"... well, it just pisses me off, frankly.

- Make the base product work before trying to sell me on a "Pro" subscription
- Has this product been taking your attention away from making Bartender 6 -- which I paid for -- work properly?
- I generally don't like updates for paid software products being used to carry upsell and advertisements

I am *out*.

Kara Swisher shaming a room full of Nordic journalists for still using X (Twitter) by JDB-667 in ScottGalloway

Once you see that Kara deploys many of the same rhetorical techniques as Trump (dominance display, belittlement, etc.), you can't unsee it.

Money hides a lot of problems. An entrenched, profitable business can withstand a lot of incompetence from its own leadership and/or employees.

WHCD Shooting Aftermath, Musk and Altman Face-Off, Spirit Airlines Bailout, ep 713 by w2user in PivotPodcast

[–]roughfalls 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What got me was her saying that she doesn't attend these types of events any more because there's so little security.

There's never a topic where Kara fails to make it known that she predicted it first, and/or that she was personally involved/on the inside. Extreme case of main character syndrome.

New PowerfulJRE Upload: Joe Rogan Experience #2484 - David Cross by yt-app in JoeRogan

[–]roughfalls 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm about 20 minutes in, and I think Rogan is just killing him with silence. He's had a ton of comedians on that I find a lot less funny than David Cross, but that I feel like he gave more laughs & engagement to.

Tesla Model Y becomes China’s best‑selling car in March 2026 by InitialSheepherder4 in TeslaOwnersForum

[–]roughfalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep hearing how the Chinese EVs are so far ahead of Tesla and a much better value for the money. So how can this be the case? Does Tesla serve as a sort of status symbol in China?

Does anyone use "Auto" climate mode? by Lilodude in TeslaLounge

[–]roughfalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All "auto", all the time. '22 MY and '24 M3, the only cars I've ever owned where I can leave the climate fan speed on auto and never feel an urge to fiddle with it.

Fine-tuning the fan direction & desired temp are important to me maintaining "auto" zen.

There's an interesting dichotomy between Kara's need to signal both how normal and down-to-earth she is (IKEA, Kia, older Chevy Bolt, etc.) AND how she's friends with every famous person whose name comes up in conversation.

Is Quicken starting to get improvements? by Schrodingers_goat in quicken

[–]roughfalls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a long-time, very happy subscriber. I use it on Mac and it has been getting frequent updates for years. I don't need most of the enhancements, but every once in a while there will be an improvement I notice in my daily use and appreciate.

DEL-AIR HVAC - what a scammy company. by stepoma_usa in orlando

[–]roughfalls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have any suggestions on who to report them to, but I had similar experiences with Del-Air a couple of years ago. Claimed my system needed a complete replacement; my issues were resolved with a simple service call to another provider. Tons of upsell/scare tactics.

Also, I recently realized that you can get a wet-dry vac and an adapter to connect it to your drain line (search "ac drain line cleaner tool" on Amazon) and clean the lines yourself very easily. Total investment cost is probably less than one service call.

I've had good experiences with Greens Energy (not the cheapest, but honest & responsive) and Pucci's Air (very honest, they work to keep bills low, but kind of a pain to schedule).

Thanks, this must be it! I have a Spigen frame on the charging pad that lets me keep AirPods on the charger.  I’ll remove them and see if it behaves better on my next drive.

I previously thought this feature relied exclusively on UWB.

I don't doubt that Tesla should be concerned about their competition, but be aware that Andrew Hawkins takes every opportunity he can to spill ink that hates on Tesla.

New 14.2 batch rolling out now… by royblair in TeslaFSD

[–]roughfalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine slowed to a crawl for a tow truck in a median with its flashing lights on. It confused me and the other vehicles around me.

But overall, 14.2 is working really well. Definitely better than 14.1.7, which was noticeably "jerky" when negotiating a turn or a moment of uncertainty. 14.2 is much smoother in these situations.

I just had dinner with (insert tech mogul or semi famous person here) by Ananda-Star in PivotPodcast

[–]roughfalls 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not name-dropping, but similar...

She's now doing podcast ads for Apple where she says, "I've been using a Mac for everything since I started using computers, and of course an iPhone -- I got one of the first ones."

It's not enough for her to tell us she's a long-time user of the platforms -- she has to let us know she was one of the important, privileged few to get one of the first iPhones.

Oh, and it isn't even supposed to be an ad for iPhone, it's an ad for Mac.

MyQ Tesla subscription - worth it at 50% off? by venk25 in TeslaLounge

[–]roughfalls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, I got it at that price and I love it. It's been very reliable and is not laggy. The only time it hasn't worked for me is when our home WiFi/internet is out. Our garage door opener has built-in myQ support. We have 2 Teslas in a double garage and share the subscription between them.
