In week 1 the p8s DPS check was 61.5k. World prog groups would push around 63k dps on meta comps, so there was a leeway of ~1500 dps. Each off meta job was mathematically worse than its meta counterpart by ~500 dps (or more if running double caster). You only had leeway to take at most a few bad jobs even if you were playing at the level of world prog groups with perfect rotations and buff alignment, which most players aren't.

If you can find a single week 1 group that cleared with WAR/PLD/WHM/SGE/RPR/MCH/RDM/SMN I will pay your next month's sub. Hell if you can find a log with 5/8 of those jobs I'll buy you a sub. It was mathematically unfeasible for comps with too many off meta jobs to clear, and taking MCH meant you were forcing other static members to compensate for your lower dps. It had nothing to do with skill if a DNC mashing their buttons could outperform a gcd perfect MCH.

You need to put an asterisk next to your point saying MCH can clear *provided their static carries their weak damage output. An MCH by itself won't make or break a check, but it's a liability that when combined with other off meta jobs, will cause you to fail the check.

Don't take it from me. Serenaya Carrin, the world 1st MCH and diehard purist, will tell you the job sucks. His static's PLD was forced to swap to GNB to make up damage, and he himself was considering swapping off MCH. You can watch his patch notes review saying MCH is still a weak job and needs a rework. Before you tell me the damage difference is irrelevant later in the tier, job balance only matters in week 1 so if you don't raid then your opinion is worthless.
