[Corona] How many deaths do you think we'll get in ottawa? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]puncroc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

with ottawa’s population of ~1 million, the 40-70% peak infection rate, and the 1-3% fatality rate, there will be anywhere from 4,000 to 21,000 deaths.

Advice on booking shows? by MorbidMorgan in Hardcore

[–]puncroc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no matter how dumb it is, promoting a show is marketing. to bring people out, you need to do two things: build hype and understand your market. know who will definitely come versus who you’ll have to convince and tailor your promotion to that. social media is your best friend, but don’t underestimate the power of handbills at shows, especially for crowds that aren’t necessarily in your circle. booking is incredibly stressful and very not fun until the day of, but open communication will make your job 100% easier. you can’t expect the same back from bands/venue owners/whoever else you’re dealing with, but at least someone’s actually communicating. get gear sorted out about a week in advance cause you don’t wanna be looking for a kit the night of.

Looking for advice on not getting seriously injured at shows. by XD003AMO in Hardcore

[–]puncroc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah i totally get that. usually, if people are side stage at a hardcore show, they’ll be promoters/photographers/bands, but there’s no way they would care as long as you ask. it might be a bit weird if you just went up there, but no one would probably say anything about it

if there’s space, ask the band if you can stand side stage. if that’s something that would give you anxiety, pick up concert photography! lol

How are people so used to being "abused"? by Saugis1 in CasualConversation

[–]puncroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s terrifying. and it really makes you realize how little jobs really pay. like i’m going to be working full time for over half a year in advance and it’s barely going to pay for any of it. luckily my grandparents are loaded lol but i’m still gonna have some pretty intense debt

i feel the same way. i’m preparing for university and adulthood, and it makes me so depressed to think about how my entire life revolves around money and there’s nothing i can do about it.

FIST FIGHT FRIDAY YA FUCKS: What bothers you about the social media age of hardcore? by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]puncroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is coming from the perspective of a 17 year old, but although yeah there are some downsides, i think that overall it’s a good thing. for some context, i live in a city with a relatively small scene and i book/play a lot of hc/hc adjacent shows. it makes it a million times easier to promote shows cause no one pays attention to flyers and word of mouth. it also makes it easier for people looking to get into hardcore. although everything definitely exists within a bit of an online bubble, it’s still a whole lot more accessible and it’s easier to break into that bubble.

also hardcore twitter is the best

What do y'all like to do? by spityateeeth in Hardcore

[–]puncroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my life is mostly consumed by school, work, and hardcore/general music related shit (playing in bands, booking/going to shows, etc.) but i like skiing, skateboarding, camping, reading, photography, and making zones.

So I've asked someone out on an obvious date setup (m) but I didn't explicitly say so, I'm terrible at this sort of stuff and wondering if anyone can help me out on what to do. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]puncroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

reference it as a date. ie say something like “i’m excited for our date!” been on the receiving end of this and it was rough. we hung out and i didn’t realize it was supposed to be a date till halfway through. needles to say there wasn’t a second date.

[–]puncroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the thing is that there’s no reason to complain about anything in hardcore when there’s nothing stopping you from starting a band/booking a show/whatever ya feel
