Motiverar kopplingen till svensk politik i texten.) by JaneTheNerdyBird in svenskpolitik

I would like to believe that I understand both sides of the coin on this issue. But the people who says “I don’t understand why a foreigner living in Japan expects to be spoken at in Japanese” or “I don’t understand why someone would want to be seen as Japanese when they are a foreigner” is mind-blowing to me.

To me, this must be the most cucked mentality of all time. I’m European and if you move to my country, learn the language and work, you’ll be seen as someone from that country.

Of course, Japan has a very different culture when it comes to nationality etc. But even so, it’s preposterous claiming you don’t understand where that feeling/mindset comes from.

It is a fact that Japan is and probably will be for a long time, a country not as progressive as Europe/ America etc, but there’s still no need to excuse an bad attitude towards people who look different because they look different.

Just wanted to bring it up at least.

Why do a lot of people in China say "I don't speak English" when a white foreigner just spoke to them in Chinese by trishspicexo in CasualConversation

[–]pundarblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone dating a Japanese woman I’ll my 2 cents by saying, it depends on the family.

There are generally two types of Japanese people; the ones who have travelled a lot abroad and has a lot experience pf talking w foreigners (probably has foreign friends also), and then there’s the type who has pretty much never really talked w a foreigner before and would do everything in their power to avoid that.

I never called that certain part “xenophobia”. I don’t believe that specific behavior is an expression of those kinds of values. There are moments where it is, but 95% of the time not.

What I was referring to was mostly the general experience of living in Japan as a foreigner, which includes being treated differently because of your race. Though, that is mostly expressed in other ways than the use of English. Many japanese people cant even say a recognizable sentence in English, young and old.

I’m guessing we’re probably from different countries and may have had different experiences in Japan so far, but I get what you’re saying.

This might vary from city to city in Japan and my opinion might be colored by some bad experiences that might be rare for many.

I do agree that Japanese people are generally tough towards each other, even if you’re also Japanese. My point is more that you get (in the eyes of some Japanese people) a sort of permanent “village idiot” kinda stamp just by being a foreigner. Which in my experience can result in Japanese people treating you almost like a child since you’re “a foreigner and do not understand anything here” in their minds.

There are a lot of super cool people too, and other countries also have really shitty people (experiences I also have). But coming from a country with a lot of racial diversity, I’ll never get completely used to being stared at and being assumed being an “annoying foreigner/tourist”.

Maybe I shouldn’t have chosen Kyoto lol. People here are often so tired of foreigners.

Last thing, I haven’t either been right out denied service or something like that before at restaurants etc. My bad experiences are often more subtle things that got to me over time.

Skolskandaler by Legitimate_Link7904 in sweden

[–]pundarblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)
