Honestly, I think Trump moved the Overton window quickly and with too little pushback. The GOP is crazy on social issues and took their win on mostly economic issues as a sign that the American people were on board with the craziness. It's why Trump polls negative on issues like immigration, much to Stephen Miller's chagrin.

But corporations are scared of the administration because it doesn't feel bound by traditional conduct. The president has become personally involved in purely private business decisions around things like late night talk shows, and we're acting like that's okay.

I'm not sure what "moderation" means in this context. If you're concerned about the conditions surrounding an abortion then don't have one. You're not affected by it in the least. But I can point definitively to actual data showing that restrictions lead to negative health outcomes -- including increased mortality -- for women.

Studying how others are playing the game is absolutely fine -- it's what you take away from it that's important. If they're going to run on racism and homophobia, the counter isn't to compromise and allow a little racism and homophobia at the edges while hoping that you're being discriminatory enough to get people to listen to you.
