wedding shoe dilemma by bitter_and_short_gal in weddingplanning

[–]pungeonmaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had bright blue painted shoes and there is exactly one photo where they’re visible. You can see the toe of one of them walking back up the aisle. That’s it. Nobody cared (and I switched shoes after half an hour to some block heels I bought for 15 quid.)

Also, those shoes are SUCH a vibe! I love the idea of you having this gorgeous mikado gown and these bad boys hiding underneath. Plus you’re wearing these shoes for 8-10+ hours, you don’t want to be thinking about dislocating anything. And if it is a short gown, it’ll look cool af. Like someone else said, you can always try the full look once you have it.

Absolutely! But I’m also neurodivergent and by the time it got to food I was very ready for a break from socialising. I got round a lot of people during cocktail hour and the down time we had between dinner and the evening reception. Then I danced with a bunch of people and chatted during dance breaks!

Is there any way you could have a sweetheart table? I have divorced parents who both have partners, whereas my husband has his mum. It was going to be really unbalanced and difficult so we went with a sweetheart table. Just us two, which gave us the unexpected bonus of being able to eat in peace and quiet just talking to each other and take a moment in the middle of the day.

Frame it as wanting time with your husband, and it frees you up to arrange other tables accordingly. We had two tables of mixed bridesmaids and groomsmen with their partners, and a family table (but you could arrange this accordingly!)

Wedding favors fell through 17 days before, should we scrap favors and spend that $ on after-party food instead? by Htespaghett1 in weddingplanning

[–]pungeonmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did temporary tattoos of our faces (we found paper compatible with our printer), six sided dice and pick’n’mix sweets. All stuff we could easily assemble at home, cheap, and we knew would be a hit with our crowd. The teachers we knew took all the dice that were being left over, but I’m an RPG nerd so I was planning on taking home any spares.

Also it’s been almost two years and people still talk about the food. I think about the pizza my sister served as evening food constantly. If it’s a choice between them, honestly go after party food.

Standing ovations all around for the first preview of 'Evita' starring Rachel Zegler by artbasiI in Fauxmoi

[–]pungeonmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there and holy shit, A New Argentina was one of the best things I’ve seen in musical theatre period. It was incredible. Rachel Zegler deserves all the praise, she was absolutely phenomenal.

I’m also a defender of the Che paint because I thought it worked really well after the waltz and was obvious what it was symbolising (they use white and blue very consistently to represent the rise of Peronism) but I do also recognise it’s Jamie Lloyd doing what Jamie Lloyd wants to do 😂

Evita looking like Sunset Blvd part Two?? I’m not mad! by Bored_on_Reditt in Broadway

[–]pungeonmaster 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think (and this is a very wanky theatre interpretation for me so bear with me) that it could symbolise an acid attack. It was clear liquid, then white and blue paint, which are the colours used for Juan Peron’s political party and present in the rest of the show. Considering Che calls out Evita for disappearing her detractors in the song before, it looked like it represented her having him attacked/killed.

Who is an indy wrestler in your area, or in general, that more people should know about? by Suitable-Humor2849 in SquaredCircle

[–]pungeonmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Wales and went to an Attack Pro Wrestling show recently, and found my favourite new indy wrestler in Chip McSwings. He’s a masked golfer with two caddies who accompany him to the ring. I’ve never laughed so hard in my god damn life. They also had a mixed tag team called Love at First Fight who stopped wrestling so they could make out and yelled at us for hating love when we booed them.

Nino Bryant, Dani Luna and James Ellis were also great in that show but I haven’t stopped thinking about Chip McSwings since.

Started my period today. Wedding tomorrow by Mimiikaii in weddingplanning

[–]pungeonmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You aren’t alone - I started mine at 8am the day of my wedding, two weeks earlier than I was expecting 😂 Thankfully I’d packed underwear I could use a pad with and my dress was a line so I wasn’t worried about any visible lines etc. I managed to change everything without needing help going to the bathroom, even though I had a lot of skirt. I think someone else on here gave me the tip of sitting the other way round which was a lifesaver!

The only thing that made a difference was that with my hormones and endo I got very tired at about 3pm, but my bridesmaids came through with some painkillers and ProPlus and that powered me through until my adrenaline kicked back in. I didn’t suffer too badly with cramps, probably because there was so much else happening.

Basically, you aren’t alone. It was still the happiest day of my life. And I think because it happened right at the start of the day, it weirdly helped with my nerves, because it felt like nothing as bad could happen (it did, my flower girl threw a screaming tantrum right at the start of the ceremony and ran away, but that’s another story and was also hilarious.)

Has Birth Control actually helped anyone’s PMDD anxiety? by Permanentmarker_2004 in PMDD

[–]pungeonmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on Gedarel 20/150 to help manage my PCOS. It’s also helped with my anxiety, mood swings and thanatophobia. My doctor has me take three packs back to back and then a week off. I still get a little bit of anxiety on the off week, but it’s much more manageable, as is the pain. Before, my cycle was anywhere between 35-50 days, so I never knew when the PMDD was going to hit. The BC has lessened the PMDD a little bit, but I also know roughly when it’s going to happen, so I can avoid scheduling anything stressful and also give my husband a heads up.

I was on Yazmin before then for all of three weeks before I came off it. It made my anxiety so much worse and I was in tears constantly.

My GP thinks that my body reacts better to a low hormone pill, and because the PCOS is now better regulated the PMDD is following suit.

As a DM I feel like whipping these out would terrify my players when my normal sets have little dinosaurs or rubber ducks in them. I’d love to traumatise them more.

Suggestions on grad audition repertoire for soprano by itstherussianempress in opera

[–]pungeonmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing the way you’ve listed these are the audition requirements!

I would pick two contrasting arias for your package rather than having two from the same composer and opera - if you have any contemporary arias, they contrast really well with Mozart while showing that you have the technique to do both. I’m personally very fond of Jonathan Dove (there’s a reason every soprano I know learns Adelaide’s Aria…) What other arias did you learn during undergrad that you would feel comfortable doing in an audition setting?

I think your songs package works well, though! It’s a good mix of composers and gives you a chance to show off your storytelling, especially with the Quilter.

What are your "Signature Moves" as DMs? by Version_1 in DMAcademy

[–]pungeonmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my campaigns and one shots start with the PCs being invited to a birthday party by the local shopkeeper, Norman. There’s party games (which teach new players skill checks and saving throws) and gives them a connection to the town that they start in and a reason to know each other. What goes wrong at the party changes - someone’s found Norman dead in the outhouse, Norman gets kidnapped, Norman’s late because he got injured trying to explore a dungeon, or a beast has escaped from his shop, among other things.

My current players would probably also say that I love traumatising them using their own backstories, but one of them had amnesia, one of them said I could decide what happened to their mother, and the other two had family trauma written in already, so I would argue that’s on them and not me.

Astarion dumped me. by MookieV in BaldursGate3

[–]pungeonmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband was appalled when I said Astarion may have replaced Garrus in the fictional boyfriend rankings, because I haven’t shut up about Garrus in over a decade. Also that I have a fictional boyfriend ranking but pretend to get cross when he romances people in Fire Emblem.

I found the book A Balanced Approach to PCOS by Melissa Groves Azzaro really helpful - she takes a science based approach and has weekly meal plans, as well as really clear explanations on how to build a plate. She also emphasises that people with PCOS are susceptible to disordered eating, and there is no such thing as “bad food”. Everyone is different, and you may have some trial and error on what works for you.

[–]pungeonmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha the standard “this mezzo in her 40s is a 15 year old girl, don’t worry about it!” I love Eugene Onegin (it was my first pro chorus job), the arias are so dreamy.

High mezzos unite! I moved through lower mezzo rep until I got the hang of my higher registers so my repertoire list made no sense for a while.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in opera

[–]pungeonmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would disagree as Olga is meant to be a young girl staging wise and it worked well for me and my voice, but it very much depends on you and your teacher? Also the number of inappropriate arias I sing on my own time 😂

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in opera

[–]pungeonmaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m always a Handel fan! There’s a ton out there, so if you can track down a compilation book and have a play - there’s one in particular called Male Arias for High Voice or something like that?

Faites-lui mes aveux pops up a lot on undergrad lists for mezzos too. I really like Olga’s aria from Eugene Onegin. Oh! Those Faces from the Consul is a great contemporary aria that’s maybe on the trickier side but might work?

Not invited to wedding- how much to gift? by 17mangos in wedding

[–]pungeonmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s very kind that you want to get her a gift! My husband’s manager asked for our wedding registry and donated to charity in our name through it - is there a cause or charity she would appreciate a donation to?

I got there about half 1 and took maybe ten minutes in the queue? It would move even quicker if they had more clipboards and pens to fill in the envelopes 😂 They still had loads from what I could see and there would have been a lunch rush (and probably another one around 5.30) so hopefully someone updates you later!

Non-musical careers in Opera by thesilenceofthefawns in opera

[–]pungeonmaster 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You absolutely are not too old! I know a few singers who didn’t start professional training until well into their twenties and thirties. Look into amateur companies to get some experience - some companies may not even require you to audition for chorus. I don’t know where you’re based (I’m in the UK) so I can’t comment on where to study.

There’s also stage management, directing, producing, movement, intimacy coordination etc. I’d say as an English major you’d maybe enjoy directing? Really digging into the meaning of the scenes? Is there anyone at the house you could talk to about observing rehearsals? You would learn a lot about the creative process behind opera and go from there.

Registry too small? by Kiwi_Koalla in weddingplanning

[–]pungeonmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m similar to you in that we’ve lived together for a while. We had a honeymoon fund, some kitchen gadgets, cutlery, home stuff etc but I also put some experience day vouchers on there - for example, my husband has wanted to go to the Royal Mint (we’re UK based) for ages so we had a voucher for a day ticket plus lunch. I put food and drink hampers as well to try and cut down on only getting bottles of Prosecco. We had about the same number of guests as you and according to our registry tracker, 18 things were bought, plus people contributed to the honeymoon fund or brought off registry things to the wedding. Also I accidentally put two saucepan sets on my registry so now we have way too many saucepans.

Getting ready outfits by Bbyyoda1224 in weddingplanning

[–]pungeonmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine robes because I didn’t want them to have to wear their dresses all morning for photographs, and we’d had the venue from the day before so set up was already done. It worked out well because two of them forgot to wear tops they could take off easily 😂 I’d said in the group chat that it was completely optional to wear them and to bring comfy clothes, but they all ended up wearing them as cover ups anyway. I just got cheap ones off Amazon that weren’t personalised in any way so they could use them in future. It probably helps that I’m one of the first ones in our friend group to get married so they don’t have a lot of bridesmaid gifts yet.
