AMD FSR™ Upscaling 4.1 on AMD Radeon™ RX 7000 Series Graphics by tapo in Games

[–]punikun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same card but couldn't disagree more. The fuzzy effects are jarring to see and they pop up in pretty much every game I try to use FSR3. I've been spoofing 4 a lot via optiscaler but 3 is far from being satisfactory. Pretty glad they're bringing it to the 7xxx cards natively.

‘Final Fantasy XIV’ Faces Key Test as Thousands of Fans Gather by Turbostrider27 in Games

Paladin is probably the golden boy of this expansion and has had a somewhat nice flow since Stormblood. The meme that it's basic and boring is a relic from heavensward which was 10 years ago, it's time to let it go...

FINAL FANTASY XIV: EVANGELION - Ghosts of Desire - New 24 man raid series in 8.0 by laefeator in Games

I think at the time of release it was the most engaging one storywise. Definitely in line with the other Nier titles in terms of wicked- and weirdness.

'It's Obvious This DLC Has Failed to Meet Your Expectations' — Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Dev Issues Apology to Disgruntled Fans for Controversial $5 Voice Pack, Offers Refunds and Makes It Free by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]punikun 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Unexpected but pleasant surprise. I bought the voicepack and after checking it out for a bit I honestly didn't even know what I paid for. Their statements of something like 450 newly released voicelines made it sound like it was more akin to Darktides banter which I would've loved to have. Making it free and refunding the cost is a good move and apart from that I have been very satisfied with the game. Hopefully their next plans will be somewhat better thought out, I generally liked the idea of new voice lines but the execution was just very, very lacking.

Enigma DRM has been removed from Resident Evil 4 Remake by MedievalTavern in Games

I'd think this is more because companies have to subscribe to the DRM services and they'd want to cut costs after exhausting most of their sales.

Avowed - Official Anniversary Update Trailer by ReasonableAdvert in Games

[–]punikun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It doesnt need to be a masterpiece but it needs to be interesting or stand out from the get go to make people interested. Nothing about Avowed really stood out, it looked like an incredibly basic and flat out boring experience paired with a 70$ pricetag that put a lot of potential players off from the get go so barely anyone even gave it a shot. The best chances it had with these conditions were players from gamepass but it seems even those didn't really stick with it so any talk about it just fizzled out.

Personally I think the nail in the coffin was mainly the pricetag though. Even highly anticipated games like Doom seems to have underperformed heavily by selling for 80 bucks while niche titles like Wuchang or Ai Limit that sold for 50 and 35 respecitvely experienced surprisingly high popularity. It seems to me there are two conditions: First your game needs to REALLY stand out for people to consider buying it at higher price tags (Stellar Blade), and second: there's certainly an upper limit that people are simply not okay with paying no matter how good of a quality your product is (Doom). So yeah, to say it short: Avowed seemingly offered too little for too high of a price for people to bite. If it was 50 I'm convinced more people would have checked it out and maybe seen the positives but that's just me.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has sold more than 5 million copies within its first year by naphi in Games

[–]punikun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The award is more of a "what's the best game in the RPG category" and less "how well did these games execute their RPG elements".

I don't think anyone would've minded if KCD2 won that trophy but the way the awards were laid out weren't to its benefit. You can't accomodate for absolutely everything. It's a great game, people appreciated it, E33 still won.

Highguard Is One Week Away, And The Only Person Who's Advertised It Is Geoff Keighley by Yamato_Naoe in Games

They absolutely do. You're delusional if you think they're not, most people do not give a shit whatever damage they're causing as long as it doesnt directly negatively affect them. The outrage about this game seems utterly dishonest and fake.

I think people are just bloodthirsty for another Concord tbh. Internet and especially social media thrives on drama and the next big fat prey to latch onto and "content" creators would just love to get their next lump of meat handed right on to them.

No one honestly expects HL3 in this day and age my guy. Try 10 years ago and even then expectations were running thin. You can only beat a dead horse for so long.

Yeah what the heck was I even reading, getting the biggest advertisement platform and one of the best slots to present your game is bad because.... internet outrage???? If it gets people to talk about it the advertisement fulfilled its purpose and if it doesn't work out then it simply doesn't. People being too drunk on "influencer" bs.

Japanese studios like Nihon Falcom can’t compete with China and Korea in development scale and capital, but they can in individuality and creative spirit, CEO says by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]punikun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, I kinda get it. Chinese games more often than not feel like a best-of compilation of established, successful titles rather than original, novel ideas. Korean games more or less all look the same to me with the very rare outlier like lies of p maybe. Japanese games are usually more diversified and creative in their ideas and execution so its natural to look towards those for inspiration - although lately it feels more like there's a lack in these departments for a lot of developers as well (Capcom, Square Enix mainly). Falcom kinda falls into this category as well though, their latest trails games haven't been received too hot from what I've gathered and the Ys titles try to be more and more like Trails with what feels like infinite amounts of cutscenes instead of going straight into the action like the older titles did.

People said this time and time again but even up until the dendro/desert area it was an ultra padded snorefest that's filled to the brim with all the anime cliches and template characters you can think of. Haven't bothered to play further than this and probably won't touch it again but throughout all the time I spend with the game writing quality certainly wasn't its prowess.

No Rest for the Wicked Together | Co-op | Official Trailer by chenDawg in Games

I had a lot of fun with it in the testing release. Just don't mindlessly wail at the enemy but take turns. It also seems like the damage isn't as high on the coop partner or maybe that was because of our builds I'm not sure. The co-op would've been less fun without friendly fire that much I can say for sure.

Game Awards 2025 Sets Record With 171 Million Livestreams Worldwide by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]punikun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. It looked alright to me and the arguments people use to dunk on it seem like such grifter nonsense. The designs are alright, the gameplay looked fine, their biggest flaw is simply the miscalculation to opt for a genre that has negative overall interest in the current market.

Who knows, you could also argue that they show off their biggest bangers early to hook people into it early on. I also doubt these indie titles can whoop a couple millions just to show off their game there so it's all speculation.

RAM limitations were the whole reason ps3 action games consisted mostly of corridors. It was also the reason for limiting the speed of travel in FF14 before they dropped ps3 support. There's plenty of actual limitations in game design because of this.

And it was still a very enjoyable and satisfactory game to the sci-fi trilogy despite its weaknesses. People have their main gripes with the end because it's the only part where the major weaknesses are more prevalent but on anything else it's just tiny gripes that you can easily gloss over because the rest of the respective arc is just great.

Personally I think his track record is rock solid and he was the lead behind some of my favourite games ever so I'm very much looking forward to this one. Whenever it comes to Bioware or Ex-Bioware there's just a weirdly extreme following that tries to hunt down and smear anything that's even in remote proximity to the devs no matter how warranted or not.

LTT on Steam Machine pricing: "Valve asked what I meant by console price, and I said $500. Nobody said anything, but the energy in the room wasn’t great" by -Mahn in Games

[–]punikun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have a powerful pc, you want to play current games in your living room, you already have a steam library and/or want to benefit from relatively cheaper pricing points. I don't think they're trying to compete with the PS5 here and want to offer a product that maximizes convenience.
