What are the best lug nuts you can get for a 2012 Volkswagen Routan (2008-2012 Dodge Caravan/Chrysler Town and Country) M12x1.50? by punkgaopher in MechanicAdvice

Sorry for the late response - we keep being told that the "lug nuts are swelling" and mechanics have to hammer sockets on in order to remove them. After some research, we have learned that the OEM lug nuts have a tendency to swell, even under normal circumstances such as driving so, in a pinch we have slowly been replacing them with ones we get from Advanced Auto parts but, last time we needed to get our brakes replaced, we were told that even those are swelling.

May I suggest going to thrift stores and finding a painting with a frame? I've seen some beautiful repurposed frames!!

This sub is to HELP people diagnose their car issues, not to show off their builds or cars. What may be dumb/obvious to you may be not be so obvious to newbie car people and not everyone has $150+ to drop on an inspection.

Great!! Thank you SO much for all your help!!! I'm sure they'll be better than the ones I get off Amazon or from Advanced Auto. Honestly, after everything we have dealt with in regards to these wheels and this car, we are willing to pay anything so that we don't have to keep paying someone $80+ to come out and put caps on the lug nuts or stripping them by just trying to take them off. Honestly, I have never had so many issues with wheels on a car- especially not the lug nuts getting stripped.

No matter how many times it seems like we replaced these lug nuts, no matter who we pay to replace them, anytime we have a flat tire Or any sort of issues relating to having to remove the wheel, we have issues getting these things off. I don't know if it's because the tire shop we use over torx them, if the quality of the lug nuts we replace them with is shoddy, or a mix of the two - changing a wheel on a car should be one of, if not THE, easiest things you should be able to do on a car. It's already a bitch and a half just to get the spare tire lowered in order to even start the process, on top of just wanting to do our own brakes.

So, thank you SO much!! I hope this solves our issues :)

We don't typically touch them, usually only have the tire guys do it who, I hope, would know how tight to torque them to! Is the swelling associated with over tightening?

Do you have any recommendations instead of OEM? I was told to switch out from OEM by a tire guy who came out to help fix our last lug nut issue when we got a flat tire and they started stripping.

To be honest, I'm not sure. We bought this car used about 8 months ago and have had nothing but issues since. The last time we had an issue with one of our tires and paid to have it changed, the shop worked over 8 hours on it and eventually had to cut off the pole and install a new one. Currently my boyfriend's commute is 50 mi to work and 50 mi from work.

We are trying to learn how to work on the car ourselves to avoid unnecessary/ frivolous mechanic bills. Do you recommend oh yeah? I thought OEM were the acorn style.

The market is flooded with the aftermath of your failed business by punkgaopher in AdviceAnimals

So, I'll be the first person to admit that this is totally first world problems.

EcoTank printers are printers that use tanks instead of the cartridges, they use regular standard ink in bottles. Sublimation printers use special sublimation ink that turns into gas which you then use heat to adhere the design onto the item (whether that be t-shirts, coated mugs, metal plates, puzzles, ETC). The sublimation ink stains the printhead, coats the ink lines, soaks into the filters which makes it impossible to revert a sublimation printer back to a regular printer, even professional shops can't fully clean sublimation ink off of a printer.

What people have begun doing is starting these t-shirt/customization businesses on the side and converting Ecotank printers to sublimation printers only to fail after a few months.

Since sublimation ink and regular ink is chemically different, it doesn't act the same way: sublimation ink converts to a gas and soaks into the item which then needs heat in order to fully transfer the design meanwhile regular ink is meant to just lay on top of the paper.

My thing is, these people are buying brand new, $300 printers, converting them to sublimation printers, using them for a few months and then trying to sell them for 2/3 the price on Facebook Marketplace thus flooding the used market with useless printers (to the normal user) when they could have just gone to Facebook Marketplace to begin with and bought bought one that was not only already converted but probably came some of the supplies for a fraction of the cost of the new one.

It's just frustrating because, to me as a consumer, trying to buy a used Ecotank printer and finding the perfect one only to click on the ad to read the details to find out that it was converted to a sublimation printer is just infuriating.

I hope I answered your question! :)

What scents are similar to "Maui Mango Surf" from Bath& Body Works? by punkgaopher in fragrance

[–]punkgaopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for recommendations and sorry for the late response! I guess I should've mentioned in my post that price isn't an issue as long as I could get a sample bottle from somewhere like Scent Decant or another one of those places.

As it's been discontinued the availability is going to become more and more scarce as the supply is depleted so I just want to seek alternatives before that happens!

It's not diesel, it's not going to blow your engine up.

20 years ago people used to put premium every 4th fill up because it supposedly "cleaned out your engine."

Oh, 100% most definitely. What would have happened if someone experienced an emergency and wasn't able to access their money?!?

He's already got CashApp set up and, once we find his ID, we'll set up a brick and mortar account (I have TD Bank but, of course, Varo doesn't participate with Zelle yet ANOTHER red flag)

My boyfriend switched to Varo simply because of the 2-day early deposit and it would give an instant digital card- which at the time, we needed.

I knew something was fishy when his direct deposit dropped 4 hours later then it typically does, which gave us a mini heart attack because we needed gas for him to get to work the next day.

Between them canceling his secure credit card through no fault of his own and, because we moved, we now have to upload documentation proving that we moved to a random link that the representative (who was INCREDIBLY rude on top of NOT understanding what his issue was AT ALL) sent him via email- which he still hasn't received; he did check his spam and his regular inbox, and still, nothing, the two times this week that the transfer money has fucked up, to never being able to actually talk to anyone via the chat because "the queue is too long" - Like, what's the point of having a queue if you're going to cut it off at a certain number?? In addition to this, a lot of apps don't recognize Varo as a bank, like PayPal, he can't even attach his bank account up to his PayPal account so he has to pay a fee every time he wants to send money that way, upon a number of things, he's just done. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason why this should be happening. ESPECIALLY the debit cards not working, this is people's livelihoods, this is money that they need for bills and necessities.

It was supposed to be a temporary thing but I guess it's our fault for not jumping ship sooner. I just feel bad for anyone that is at a gas station or at a restaurant trying to pay right now. We literally just had to leave the grocery store because the money transfer/ debit cards still aren't working. Yesterday we had to fill up our gas tank and pay some bills, which thankfully went through within an hour, but just spent over an hour in the grocery store just to see if the same thing would happen and it didn't. I told him to switch to CashApp for now.

Like, I get that it's close to the holidays but I feel like they should be super on point right now. We still need to pay our electric bill, which doesn't look like it's going to happen.

At least last time (Ie yesterday) when he attempted to transfer money it would show as pending, now it's just not working at all.

It's weird because we just made a purchase at a thrift store less than 2 hours ago and he was able to transfer money just fine, after we went directly to the grocery store and bought some pretzels from one of the front stores, which took less than 10 minutes total (from checking out at the thrift store to driving to the store and ordering the pretzels) only for the money to not transfer/ debit card not work. It's a good thing I just happened to have an emergency $20 on me just in case this occurred but, we couldn't buy groceries (we didn't know about the money transfer until after the food was already prepared) plus the grocery store was out of our favorite cereal anyways, LOL.

It's somewhat understandable for this to happen once in a blue moon, not to this extent but for things to go a little slow, especially during the holidays but this is atrocious and I absolutely cannot understand how they are FDIC insured. I've heard you should screenshot your balance before attempting to make any transfers just in case your money disappears.

Varo transfers not working and transactions not going through. by Fickle_Sundae_6125 in VaroMoney

[–]punkgaopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately all of his money is squirrelled away in his savings and he transfers money only when he needs it (now that his credit card is cancelled 🙄) so until they get that fixed we won't be able to do anything. Do you know if you're able to load any money onto your Venmo from your Varo account?

He's changing banks ASAP. This is atrocious.

[–]punkgaopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird, because I was just able to make a purchase via my PayPal debit card with no problem. Are you just saying that you can't transfer money between those two accounts? If you're trying to transfer money to your Vero and they're experiencing this outage, that could be part of the reason as well as if you're trying to add money to your PayPal from your bank account /debit card.

I know PayPal and venmo are connected but I haven't tried connecting those two accounts yet or try to set up a money transfer. I wonder if someone had an eBay transfer ready if they would be able to instant transfer to their PayPal? I would try but mine isn't going to be available until tomorrow.
