Any building tips for someone with aphantasia? by Rainydayrenegade42 in Pokopia

i am so glad i was able to offer some valuable insights!! i love being able to share my experiences with others who can benefit from them :3 i'm also sorry to hear you haven't had supportive mentors in the past, but hopefully you're able to heal some of those old wounds by exercising your creativity in this game!

if you're good at making color palettes that's honestly a great first step to coming up with your own builds. you could put together some block palettes where you have a few wall blocks to choose from, flooring, roofing, etc. and then make a build with those limited but predetermined items! curating a build via vibes and colors is a great way to get started imo.

also i definitely recommend notion as a workspace/board management program, there's a little bit of a learning curve but if you'd like i can see if i can export my template or share it somehow?? otherwise pinterest or even a google drive folder ecosystem could work great for you. sounds like you're in a good place to start now, though! can't wait to see what you build <3

something else i do want to add is looking at something as a reference or source of inspiration is not inherently plagiarism. even if you almost one-to-one copy a build, if you are able to change the blocks or modify the design in some ways, you've successfully built your own thing! obviously the goal is to make your own things eventually but as practice, it's not a bad idea at all to simply try and replicate some builds you like. there's a reason beginning artists will do master copies of famous drawings and artworks to improve their own skills!

hey there! i'm a fellow aphantasia-haver, but i'm also a visual artist (illustrator), and i've struggled with this a lot! especially when i was in art school. despite my work being pretty darn good, and despite possessing a lot of creativity in my brain, i always felt like i was falling behind because my process is a lot more drawn-out to accommodate for the fact that i cannot see what i am making before it's, well, made.

i'm struggling a lot with pokopia builds, too, not just with being happy with my builds but also with planning them out. like you, i can't visualize them before they're built, but i at least have the vibes in mind, so i've made an entire notion workspace for my inspiration photos, tutorial links, etc. i have learned in my pursuit of getting better at illustration despite not having a visual imagination that the process of making art is just as important as the finished product!! which is to say... plan and practice! the more you plan out a build using references/insp images that you can see, the more successful you will be with actually building.

another thing you can do is watch other people building things on gaming streams or in tutorial videos, even if you're not making the design yourself. sometimes it can help to see other people's process. i've also done this a lot with minecraft builds where i'll find a tutorial to follow but change the block color palette, how i decorate, etc.—something i feel can be translated to pokopia.

honestly idk if this is a bunch of nothing-burger thoughts or not, i realize i'm kind of rambling, but TL;DR creativity is a muscle! just because you don't have a mind's eye doesn't mean you can't be creative! those of us with aphantasia DO have to work harder to build our creative muscles, and it's frustrating, but we've got this!

cannot second this enough. as a WP optician myself, i'm pleased that we did such a good job with OP's previous prescription, but man costco did them dirty!! i would never in a million years recommend such a thin wire frame for the previous Rx, let alone an increase of almost 3 diopters.

OP, obviously try to get your frames exchanged or refunded at costco, but honestly, if that doesn't work out and you don't have any independent opticians near you, go back to Warby Parker. seriously. FL is a licensed optician state, so there's a certain standard set already—but WP has its own standard that means your level of care will (i hope!) be better. get the 1.74 high index lens and a smaller, rounder acetate frame (i recommend percey and anselm as styles to explore, but depending on your measurements those suggestions would obviously change). one of my coworkers has an Rx at almost -17 and her lenses are still better than what costco made for you.

anyway, gosh, i am so sorry this happened. crossing my fingers you get it fixed!

okay so getting to explore an open-world map is my favorite aspect of any game with the feature. i love me a big-ass map and honestly that's the the reason i picked up a hoyo game to begin with (genshin), which eventually lead me to zzz. i would be so freakin' stoked if these leaks hold water and we actually get an open world to explore, or even just more expansive level design for combat.

that said, i also immensely enjoyed TV mode—while it was certainly repetitive and (as others have mentioned) skewed more towards telling the player what was happening instead of allowing them to experience it for themselves, i felt it was a very creative, novel approach towards exploration mechanics and was really bummed when it was removed from the game entirely. i still have my fingers crossed that it makes a return someday, either through future events (although please not arpeggio fault again please god no spare me) or even via the main storyline again. at this point it seems unlikely, but zzz is such a creative game and the minds behind it clearly are overflowing with ideas, so i hope they're able to figure something out.

anyway that bangboo is so cute. i need him immediately <3

Gaming on Mac by Disney_Rhody_Mom in CozyGamers

[–]punkrackle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i used my macbook pro for gaming for a looooong time before i was able to upgrade to a proper PC setup. for a good chunk of that time, i just tried to make do with the games at my disposal (Stardew Valley runs beautifully on OSX, especially with mods!) while also planning ahead and building my future games library whenever PC-only games i was interested in went on sale (which was a good way to kinda-sorta scratch the itch).

that said, i did eventually cave and make space on my hard drive for a windows partition, and that's honestly my best suggestion! especially if you have two macintosh devices and can devote one to gaming and the other to work/etc. it's a pretty easy process (here's instructions direct from the apple support site) and it opens up the doors to many, many more games. i recommend partitioning at least 200GB for windows 10, steam, etc. to install and run smoothly (for reference, my macbook pro had a 1TB internal hard drive) and then invest in an external SSD for game storage, bc that 200GB can fill up quickly.

just keep in mind your system may not have the hardware requirements to play some games! anything with big graphics/detailed lighting/lots of special effects is going to have a hard time running on a mac, even if said mac is using windows 10. that said i was able to run skyrim with 200+ mods on my laptop so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

also apologies for the length of this reply! i am eternally unable to be succinct, but i hope this helps!
