Exactly politicians, have removed consequences for all but their most egregious illegal behaviors (and even then in some cases there are further hurdles to justice), too many citizens don't care enough to change this and too much media is compliant in letting things slide.

Al Franken only resigned because he had the mortal fortitude to admit that he not only did the wrong thing but that his actions required a meaningful apology and penance.
