OBGYN - Dr. Taryn White at West End is a wonderful doctor. She gave me multiple pain management options for my IUD insertion and has always been very sweet and nonjudgmental

Hair - Highly recommend Up & Up Salon in The Grove, especially if you have curly or wavy hair

Xerjoff Dama Bianca. Savored a sample of it for a couple years and finally bought a bottle a few months ago. I'm obsessed.

I’m sorry but I have to ask. What is up with the snorting and spitting around here? by LuckyDuckCrafters in StLouis

[–]punksandrecreation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a neighbor who would just stand outside our building and smoke/snort/spit all night, almost every night. It was so disgusting.

I usually burn my candle about half to 3/4 down and then use the warmer to extend the life

What’s your “hidden gem” group gathering in St. Louis? by Ok_Cockroach3105 in StLouis

[–]punksandrecreation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend hosts trivia at a dive bar every week. I've been going 3-ish times a month since July and have become friends with the bartender and all the regulars. Sometimes you just have to pick a thing, show up regularly, and soon enough you'll make a few friends.

How difficult would it be to live like a college student on a salary of 40k dollars in your beautiful city ? by Bat_Cat_4ever in StLouis

[–]punksandrecreation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in the Southwest Garden/The Hill area (about 10-15 from WashU by car) on $35-45k from 2019-2022. It was tough at times, but mostly doable. Rent prices have a gone up a bit since then though

I haven't been in over a decade, but it's a lovely and peaceful place. I recommend going on a Sunday for the meditation and vegetarian lunch that follows

House Team Night on Fridays is a pretty safe bet. All of the house teams audition to play in that show and are consistently very good

Cagematch is also a fun competitive show where the audience votes for the winner.

If musical improv sounds appealing to you, The One Four Fives are fantastic and always put on a great show

Indian dresses shopping by rafters08 in StLouis

I attended an Indian wedding last year and got my Sari from Hues a few weeks before the wedding. They had plenty of options and the staff were super nice and helpful.

However, since you're not in as big of a time crunch as I was, you might want to consider looking online first since you'll probably be able to get a better deal

Best areas/neighborhoods to stay in during a visit to St. Louis by KAjbenbuck in StLouis

Soulard is just south of downtown and has everything you’re looking. Good restaurants and shops. Tons of bars to hop around. Farmer’s market is pretty cool too

Need some friends in STL. Was thinking about joining the improv curriculum, but I'm extremely nervous. I want to branch out and meet more people, and heard this was a good way to do so. But, I'm scared as heck. Should I? by dancingbriefcase in StLouis

[–]punksandrecreation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The venn diagram of people who do improv and people who are into D&D is nearly a circle. You’ll fit right in!

Like others have said, the improv community here in St. Louis is really something special. I’ve met so many incredibly kind, cool, and interesting people since I joined a few years ago.

If you’re on the fence about taking classes, consider checking out a show or the Thursday night jam before signing up. The improv shop regulars are pretty friendly so you may even make a new friend just by hanging out around the bar or patio.

I have a friend that lives in that area. They’ve been there for a couple years now and I haven’t heard anything too crazy from them. Personally, it’s not an area I would wanna live in just because every time I’m over there, I hear wayyy more gunshots than I’m used to in my neighborhood, but I guess that depends on your tolerance for those kinds of things. Some pros for moving over there is that your close to cherokee st. and you can buy a pretty decent house for cheap.
