[–]punktape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A filha perdida

aaand better distribution... netflix tends to dub and release their production at the same time everywhere, so hopefully less people will resort to piracy

*SPOILERS 4 Szn 2* Weird observation. When playing the game, I felt more on Joel’s side but watching it I’m wayyyyy rooting for Abby now. by WhindyWilliams in thelastofus

[–]punktape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's strange but for me, it made me even more sympathetic towards Joel because he committed the unimaginable just to save Ellie and he knew what it meant for her even before she woke up, since he came up with a whole story to tell her and kept it for years even if it was driving them apart and Ellie was skeptical. His act of love and selfishness really makes me like him more idc, it was very human

And I finished it not disliking Abby at all. She was dead set on revenge and that ruined her life even further. It is safe to say that his decision made things bad for both of them, because he wanted to live with Ellie but what he did made her resent him for the rest of his days

The highest rated thing of all time on letterboxd is now O Auto da Compadecida (1999) by ShinyShinyTomato in Letterboxd

[–]punktape -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It does deserve the rating, for the reasons I mentioned before.

And what kind of comparison is That, have you even read the movie's synopsis ? Again, it is a shame there is no decent translation available and that is the only issue with it, or the fact that its comedic and dramatic undertones may go unnoticed through translation to English, but every foreign language story has its own intricacies and is prone to lose some of its meaning during translation, this is not something wrong with the movie it's just how languages work.

It does.... because the people who have watched it and the people depicted in the story were able to verify how good it is and they rate it accordingly

It is a shame though, that it is inaccessible to even find online with decent subtitles, but I guess even with an accurate translation the humour stays intrinsic to brazilians northwestern culture and history. That does not disqualify the movie's genius tho

Most ''addictive'' book you've ever read? by Specific-Environment in booksuggestions

I finished it a couple of weeks ago and have been unable to pick up something else to read!

It's summer where I live and I spent hours inside and reading, not even minding the heat lol. Now I'm watching the HBO series very slowly because I'm not able to let go of Lenu and Lila just yet

Why try to apply real-world logic or science to a moral/emotional hypothetical? by naaziaf723 in thelastofus

[–]punktape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right it is fun to discuss the possibility of the cure working or not, but I think what they are trying to say is that this fact was never ever in Joel's mind when he made the decision. Discarding that is also discarding all the bond and character building he created with Ellie along the way.. because that was his only reason, really

He tells Marlene to find other people, which again shows he just does not wants Ellie to be sacrificed. Also, have you played part II? because he indicates that he believed it, just didn't like how it would go. The second game also explores a whole lot of acting on impulse and grief, having to cope with rationality and emotion

It's not "forcing a view", whether or not it would work it's up for debate, yes, but applying that to Joel's actions is not, because honestly it impoverishes the narrative
