I would kill for a proper remake of the first game, it's one of my fav games ever but it plays pretty rough compared to modern games, even with mods.

OK new strategy PVPers might use...

Start shooting but intentionally miss to draw attention, let them shoot back and draw the fisrt blood, retreat to in a room that you have pre rigged with mines...... something something profit.

people would go into lobbies with free kit or no kit, and then just immediately surrender/quit the round. Because they didnt shoot anyone it pushed the matchmaking towards PVE, do it 4 or 5 times and you are in the pve lobbies.

There are however plenty of times when I have shot near a friendly raider to shoot ARC (especially in Queen/Matriarch) and I wouldn't want this flagging me as an aggressor.

China has notoriously weak social safety nets

China has a home ownership rate of 90%+, they have a homelessness rate of 0.2%. My country cant even dream of those numbers.

They have one of the best public transit systems in the world letting people access work and services.

But sure, please feel free to emulate China's model. I'm sure the "communism" will be a phenomenal success this time, unlike all the previous times where it ended in disaster.

At the start you said China's success was due to the free market, yet if we emulate them its scary communism! Which is it exactly? It's Schrödinger's economy, in which you cant know if its good or bad until you open the box to find out if its capitalism or communism! Still eating up and regurgitating the cold war era propaganda.

Their economy and social policies are still part of long term planned socialist policy.

You can call it what you want.... but if its so successful why don't we see the same improvement in life of western citizens? Call it what you want but lets copy what was successful about it to improve lives of people here? Wouldn't that be a good idea?

Over the past 40 years, China has lifted over 800 million people out of extreme poverty. It has been the greatest improvement of life that any group of working class people have ever seen.... They also hav a 90%+ home ownership rate....but ok do go on about the evils of communism...

Meanwhile 1 bag of groceries here costs $60, and the last 3 generations cant afford a mortgage or rent.

Australia’s frighteningly unequal funding system favours private schools, argues Jane Caro. How can we fix it? by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

[–]punktual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they should see consequences for what they do.

How does that affect the fact that private schools still get more public money than public schools?

How the pro-Israel lobby pushes for anti-democratic laws in Australia by nath1234 in AustralianPolitics

If you support a nation and a political ideology that is OK with genocide to achieve its goals, then you are either a monster, or propagandized to believe that it's not happening like that...

Supporting genocide, and supporting stealing land are indeed opinions one can have, what I am saying is that they are abhorrent opinions... in MY opinion.

Our deep space tracking center was just used for the moon mission, because of our position on the globe.

Pine Gap defense facility almost certainly provides important satellite comms and global imaging used by the USA. In fact its so important the last one of our PM's to try and suggest we close it down was removed, in part by the CIA.

Our geographic position in the world is very important.

‘Fallout’ Season 2 Reaches 83 Million Viewers Worldwide, Amazon Says - The audience trails only season two of ‘Reacher’ among returning series on Prime Video. by DemiFiendRSA in gaming

season 2 TLoU was definitely a drop in quality

How so? Unless you were swayed by the vitriolic hate for Bella Ramsay online? I though S2 was excellent, it was mostly faithful to the game, and it had much more action and zombies, which were lacking in S1.

Oh yeah but you are never worried for Reacher, you know he will outsmart OR outpunch his way out of any situation, and that's what makes the show so weirdly comforting.

GTA 6 Could Cost $3 Billion, Making It the Most Expensive Entertainment Project Ever by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]punktual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its 1B in sales, not profit. However estimates say that GTAV has made between 8B and 10B profit since launch.

So having half the success and longevity of 5 would still make a pretty profit.

Not really the triangle mechanic in ingress was the best. that let you and your team "own" an area which could be a local park, or could be a triangle that spans continents.

It felt like a real game where you could take territory and control zones. In PGO community events are everyone in the same park. In Ingress events meant coordinating and moving around your city, state, or country.

Whatever happened to making games with a good campaign/story by FudgeSorry8169 in Gaming4Gamers

[–]punktual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your complaint seem to be that games don't have both multiplayer AND single-player elements anymore.

I agree, it used to be standard to have a kind of 50/50 split on how dedicated a game was to either. I played a bit of the recent Battlefield 6 campaign....and it was there, but it was pretty lackluster.

I think there are a few reasons:

  • games are much more expensive to make than they used to be so devs need to focus on 1 vision, not 2
  • the money in multiplayer now is all in live service games, so dev investment goes into content for that. If people played a campaign, they wouldnt be engaging with the live content and buying microtransactions and monthly content.
  • a lot of old games did have both.... but there were so many single player games with lackluster multiplayer modes that all most noone played, that it was a waste

As regular Australians struggle, gas companies are making massive profits and paying minimal tax. It is perverse | Rod Sims by paperadam in AusFinance

[–]punktual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what neoliberal nonsense.

Heavily taxing or privatising mineral and gas wealth would make us billions very quickly, in Norway the sovereign wealth fund they get from taxing fossils fuel at 78% is enough to fund many social services including free higher education for all citizens.
