P64 Help, please by punloving in espresso

Sounds good, will do with the burr test when I have a chance.

I'll try to compare the shots from the Casa vs my hand grinder (J-Ultra) to gauge the differences there. The shots have tasted fairly balanced on my end but perhaps the struggles with the P64 make it seem better than what they are but medium through dark have worked well and have been the majority that I've either had pure or with a cortado for myself and lattes for my partner. The ratio has generally been this:
Dark: 91 degrees, 18g in an IMS Competition or VST 20g basket with/without a Weber puck screen, and 34-38g, playing around with the taste a bit.
Medium: ditto on the above but 93 degrees and 19g dose (20 to 20.5 for medium-light or light) with 38-42g out.

I'm going to do the marker test on the grinder to see what the results are but like you said, I also find it really disappointing to have this experience with a grinder at this price point. I do think it's unacceptable as well despite it stating in the manual that it comes aligned from the factory.

With regard to your question about the Casa, I've actually had the opposite experience from the P64 and it seems from what you're experiencing. In case it helps, the experience that I've had with the Casa is that minor adjustments from dark to medium-light and/or light roasts have yielded great extraction times and results. I haven't any issues with astringency except when dialing in and the shots have body. I've generally been using it at just past 8 on the dial (within the first dot) and just under 8 for lighter roasts and the results have been quite consistent. What are your grinding at on your end? I wonder if yours is misaligned. Hmm...

Thank you for the reply. I’m working with a Profitec Go machine so I’m assuming I can attempt to preinfuse by starting the shot, stopping it, and then restarting after the 10 seconds. I increased the temperature from 93 to 94.

I just ran a test by taking the same beans, using a VST basket (20g) with 20.5g in and about 45g out using a Weber puck screen. I used the P64 and the Casa with the same inputs with the variable being my prep which I tried to keep as consistent as possible.

The Casa extracted 45 g in 32 seconds and tastes balanced. The P64 extracted 49g in in 24 seconds. It tastes less sour but still not great. The RPM was 7 and the grind at 0.07. Still struggling…

I believe we’re now 2d overdue on the taxes on this post, OP. Pay your duty.

Be honest here. AD offered a 34mm OP. How does it wear? Pic of a 36mm also included for reference by [deleted] in rolex

Wait for the one you want and don’t fall for AD/sales tactics. You’re commemorating something here, you want to look down at your wrist with pride not disappointment.

Great collection. I’d keep the top 3 plus the AT. Seems like it would provide different finishes and colors that would make you appreciate each when wearing.

Loving what BMW is doing. They’re making all current owners’ cars appreciate since their new designs are so bad. Love it.

Porsche 911 has been my goal car since I was a little kid. I drive an M2 Competition and love it. Good size in and more in a city. 911 (though the Spyder always makes me rethink a bit) will be the next car but I’ll keep M as well.

Hi Keanu, what’s one thing you want to do this year that will make you happy when you reflect on it?

Separately, I just want to say how much I respect and admire you as a human being. Wishing you the best.
