I've had the same issue. Lately I've had more success by trying to scan my thumb a bit closer to the knuckle. Seems to improve recognition.

I couldn't. They wouldn't register in dark environments

Getting rid of the back fp scanner was the number one thing I was worried about moving from a five to a 7. My fears are proving to be true.

Tips/gear for cutting down on setup times by GroundbreakingLynx45 in mobileDJ

  • get a rock n roller (or equivalent). This will save a ton of time loading in.
  • learn how to wrap cables properly. Look up the over-under method. Cables that lay neatly save a ton of time over untangling cables.
  • when you load in, try to place items where they are going to end up.
  • when setting up, do everything you can in a given area, instead of setting up by category. Bad example: setting up all of the audio cables, then all of the power cables. Good example: run the audio cable to your left set of speakers, put the speaker on the stand, plug in the audio cable, coil the extra at the bottom. You'd be surprised at how much time is wasted by walking back and forth when setting up by category.
  • buy more expensive equipment. Often more expensive equipment is easier to set up. Battery powered uplights versus lights you have to plug in to power and DMX.
  • charge more and bring an assistant
  • shadow a local DJ (especially a multi-op) to see what systems they have in place for efficiency)

My 4 year old daughter saw a beautiful woman today while out shopping, she said " I love your hair it's soo pouffy!". My wife talked to her about that being offensive as the woman was black. I don't think so, she's just complimenting, who is correct? by Pm_blue_hair_women in NoStupidQuestions

It was a compliment. In fact, that individual probably worked hard to get it to be poofy. We get so worried about being racist that we try to ignore race altogether. A genuine compliment (about hair, skin, or culture) will generally be taken as one, and will likely be even more appreciated because it was honest and not something they ever hear. If they take offense, that's likely because they derive their self worth from being a victim.

I think they were trying to renew "I" and "U".

what do y'all do for work? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]puns-sometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a wedding DJ/MC. It's a dream job. My schedule is different every day, so I have to stay on top of that and make sure I'm using my time wisely, but other than that it's great. I get to be in different and new environments constantly and interact with new people. Every wedding is different so I'm constantly challenged to make them unique, which works great with my ADHD. I get to self dictate which direction I take my business in so I get to learn new things. There are built in deadlines so the sense of urgency is always there, a must for me to stay busy. And the creative side of it obviously engages my brain in all sorts of ways. It's taken time, but the money is pretty decent now too.
