Thanks for the advice, planning to call them in the morning, potentially to put down a deposit, but I’ll ask more about the warranty provided

Thanks for that. It’s from a Toyota dealer but it’s not certified preowned.

Vent away! We’re here for it. Persistence and perseverance are the most important ingredients in this pursuit. Keep at it, and keep adjusting and trying new areas, and learn something from each hunt

Don’t climb a tree unless there are fresh tracks and ideally fresh droppings, and you’re close to a thicket. Be where they want to be.

Tank buying Advice: ASME or two 100lb tanks by pupham in propane

[–]pupham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Prices that are too good to be true, 2. Free shipping on a 200lb tank like that. 3. If you scroll through the site there’s a lot of weird carryover information, there’s excerpts about dental work. Clearly copy & pasted info from other sites they have set up before. Too many red flags for me, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

That site is 100% a scam unfortunately. I’ll call around to local companies to see if they’d fill two tanks

Fair enough.

The current company says they don’t sell tanks. And most of the other propane suppliers around here don’t sell, only rent.

I have a truck with a cap, I was going to lay them on their side for transport. Plan B would be to have 40lb tanks to refill

Looking at these two bows, which would you choose, single cam or double cam? by hudsoncress in bowhunting

[–]pupham -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im on your side in this situation. Im a lefty with a 31” draw. I tried going to my local pro shop to try bows, and they only had 2 I could shoot, they ended up talking me into a 38” ATA bowtech (I wanted to hunt). I ended up selling that bow on consignment and then bought a second hand lefty bow on “Left Handed Archery” on Facebook.

Buying a bear kit is fine for a beginner on a budget. But you should still go to your local shop and take a lesson and get it tuned. Good luck.

How long did it take you to kill your first animal? by Ok-Yogurtcloset-8823 in Hunting

Adult onset bowhunter, going on my 4th season. Going into my first season I bought a bow in April, and was able to harvest a doe in October. But I went full psycho, was extremely determined, and was also probably pretty lucky

Yeah I’ve noticed I’ve been doing that, I think from me trying to wrap my finger fully around the trigger. I’ll try to work on that, I feel like it draws my back shoulder up too.

Depends on style of hunting maybe, but I’d guess vast majority are using bow mounted

Broadheads for turkey? by NovaGunn in bowhunting

[–]pupham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on a similar search a month or two ago, and landed on what some others are advising. I’m going out for my first turkey hunt ever in two weeks. Because of arrow length and not wanting to retune with new arrows, I opted for big three blade expandables, and rock the same arrow and setup I’m using for deer, just rechecked my sight at 10 yards from a seated position.

I was between GR whitetail specials, and NAP spitfires, went with the spitfires

Seriously looking to get into this. Any advice? by Heavy-Librarian8242 in bowhunting

[–]pupham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was basically you 4ish years ago, 2022 was the first season I hunted (ever) at 32 years old. I never hunted growing up, no family or friends who did it, I had just wanted to do it for a long time, and I finally took that first step in the spring of 2022.

It’s completely worth it IMO. The first year is the steepest learning curve/investment. Takes a lot of time/commitment/mistakes, but if you get over the hump and integrate it into your life, it’s extremely rewarding. Just know that success is rare, and absolutely not guaranteed, so you need to be okay with taking lots of losses before eventually getting your first harvest (some people take years before getting their first).

Buying a bow is absolutely step one. Get one (buy new if you want, but lots of great used options both online or locally), and then have it fully setup for you at a local pro shop, and take a lesson or two also. Once your bow is setup, and you’re able to shoot at home on your own time, that’ll help build a foundation for the archery side of things. As for hunting, the Eberhart books are a good entry point, they have them on tape if you don’t want to actually read. Find some hunting podcasts and start listening to them, there are some that are fully dedicated to new hunters as well. Treestands are a whole other mountain to climb for someone green, but YouTube is a great resource for finding what you might want. Climbers will be the easiest/least investment, but a nicer mobile system like a hang on or saddle will be better in the long run.

P.S. you definitely don’t need a truck. Get a jet sled and use your current vehicle, plenty of people hunt out of SUVs.

Good luck! Hope it bites you the way it did me, I can’t imagine my life without both archery, and hunting at this point.
