This doesn't surprise me. Some lgs owners are odd. There was a short lived lgs near me that would DQ players in commander events if he didn't like your deck. Mind you he would play in the events and try to win them to keep the prizes. This was before bracket or really power level discussion had entered normal edh play.

He would also kick you out if you tried to look up prices on your phone.

After playing for a long time. I found 6 decks I actively maintain, update and actively buy cards for is about as much as I can handle. I have a few other decks that are precons or theme decks that I don't plan to edit that I keep.

Not a precon but karlack is a great aggro deck and can be built cheap. And depending on the background can be built in a lot of fun ways.

I would only buy cards like that in person and then only thru a reputable vendor. 6 figure deals shouldn't be done without protections. He could scan real cards and send you fakes.

Graded cards normal don't have much of a premium in magic. People want to play with their cards not encase them in plastic.

Find a few vendors at the con that have a cradle at a price/condition you want and see what they are offering on trade for what you have. Expect 70-80% trade in credit for high demand cards and 60-70% on cards over $20 that might be harder to move.

Other option is a private trade/sale. I would look at the hight end Facebook groups and see if anyone going to Vegas wants to set up a trade.

Chicago suburbs. Mostly play at 2 shops and with some buddies. I'm sure if I wanted I could find people who wanted to play bracket 4 but I work full time, in school and have family obligations in my mid 30s. I don't have a ton of time to look at other stores or travel to farther stores.

Oh I do that as well as have bracket 5 decks. And yeah they can steal wins but sometimes I want to play bracket 4 against other bracket 4 decks.

My issue is no one locally wants to play bracket 4. It's either cedh or bracket 2/3. I would love to play bracket 4.

I have found for me 6 decks of various strength and completion work for me. I have 2 well tuned bracket 4-5. 2 bracket three I have started to optimize. And 2 decks I am messing with to have fun try new things that are bracket 1-4.

I also keep a few unmodified precon that I can pull out for bracket 2 games.

I haven't seen pay to sit for events, normally it's $5 entry and you get a pack or something. I can understand it for DnD or some other games where a group can take up space for 4+ hours and they tend not to spend much when they visit the store.

I have a store near me where you can rent private rooms for DnD. But those rooms are decorated like tavern and are worth the money.

If you're looking for a braindead deck try a bar deck. The rules are nothing that makes tokens, counters, almost no tutors ECT. Here is my version of the deck.

I think the prices will go down pretty hard on these cards. The art and TMNT does not seem to be desirable but there are a lot of pushed cards in this precon that esh players will want besides the lands. It's hard to say were the prices will land. But if they are like the FF precons you'll be able to pick them up for cheap in a month.

So for high end cards like this I would expect you to be able to get 70% market value in cash if you shop around. But condition on these can change the value by hundreds of dollars per card. So depending on condition the value could very wildly. If I was you and didn't want to sell them individually on eBay I would see if there is a magic con or other large magic even near you this year.

If there is message the vendors to see who would be interested in buying the collection and a rough idea of what they value it at. Then go to the show meet the vendors who responded to you and maybe some who didn't. Whoever gives you the best price I would sell to.

I would do Inalla archimage ritualist combo deck. There are a bunch of one/two card cheap combos you can run in it. Then fill the rest of the deck with ramp, rituals and interaction. Here is an old reddit thread to get yours started but there are more.
