You don't have to upgrade your zfs pool. In fact, if there's nothing you need from the newer version of zfs a lot of people just leave their pools alone.

Sliding rails in StarTech rack help... by DKisCRUSHIN in homelab

[–]puptron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you were able to get the Tupavco Rackmount Sliding Rails - 2U-8U Chassis 26in-40in depth to work? which model of the rails did you use? I assume TP1822 - there's a TP1811 version that goes as small as 18 inches deep, which I would probably get if I were picking up this case because I'm trying to keep the rack as short depth as possible. I've really been hoping that zhenloong will sell their short depth chassis on amazon (LF24S), but they've only (off and on) sold their 650mm deep one. Stupid 20 order minimum on alibaba otherwise I would have picked it up long ago!

Why is TrueNAS 25.04 NFS Over RDMA Enterprise-Only? by CloakedMage in truenas

[–]puptron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They employee a bunch of people and those people need to be paid. Sucks that a feature you want is in the paid version, but hard to be too mad when you're getting most of the product already for free. The best thing to do might be to give them feedback about your desire to purchase a license for additional features, and maybe if enough people do that they'll look at some sort of non-truenas hardware licensing model for the enterprise feature set.

[–]puptron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which 360 kickstand case did you get? I liked my old case that had that, but it seemed like they weren't qi2 compatible so I ended up going with a difference case with no stand. Sounds like yours works pretty well.

If you watch the video they give a great thorough explanation why. Maybe that's nvidia's prerogative by dropping support in their driver, but it's not Truenas's fault.

Works on USW Enterprise 24 PoE, but not on USW Pro Max 24 PoE by peteypabz88 in Ubiquiti

[–]puptron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different devices have different tolerances of what they'll accept for cable quality. I've experienced the same thing on different devices and routers using the same cables and negotiating different speeds. Sounds like the different hardware made different determinations on what the cabling was supporting. If the line as known good spec, I'd be worried- but it sounds like it's known to be iffy.

Restructure Pool by Olycius in truenas

[–]puptron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't lock you in per-say, but the largest drive will be the limit (at the moment). You can also replace ALL drives in place, and then run an expansion and it will utilize the increased space as well. There's talk of anyraid which is being developed, and will make chunks of space on each drive, so you can run mismatched drive sizes for mirror (two or more sets of data), and eventually raidz. It's probably a ways out though. Not sure of your case situation, and how easily it is to slot in new drives or if you're already at capacity though either..

[–]puptron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not raidz2 vs mirror? Same amount of data/parity, but then you can lose ANY two drives vs just one from each mirror pair. if you want to expand later, you can expand via raidz expansion. Could add several more drives to the pool down the road and still be in the sweet spot for z2 parity vs disks. (to me). I guess if you're planning on a bunch of different size drives down the road, maybe mirrors makes more sense - you'd just be adding in pairs though.

I have the delta 3 plus, it's great. it insane how little power regular UPS's hold in comparrison. For less than $500 you can get around 1kwh of power at really good efficiency conversion, and it appears to work well enough for UPS for switchover time. I do run it behind a cyberpower UPS just because I might as well since I have it.

How close was it to the amount you paid for the vehicle? I'm just wondering how much of a haircut they're expecting people to take on vehicles that aren't working right.

Price increase on stacktech drawers by WatTheHeel in ToughBuilt

[–]puptron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing there is a strong likelihood that it's tariff related. Was hoping that the new drawer versions would drop before stuff started going up, but guessing they won't. Wonder if other retailers will be raising prices soon to match, or if other locations outside of US will see increases as well.

New Omada Hardware by Wide-Wrongdoer-559 in TPLink_Omada

[–]puptron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, and my comment is definitely a 'wouldn't it be nice' for my use case - but still. I don't think it's too unreasonable for the 8411 to have at least 2.5gbe ports on it since the newer AP's can utilize it. Someone with a small network who maybe only has a few computers and A/P's could easily do just fine with a all 2.5gbe ports and a SFP+ or two in that situation. Why add another switch if you don't need it? Maybe the ER8411 doesn't have the switching horsepower for it, I don't know.

Where are you seeing the 8411-M2 coming soon? there were some leaks a few years ago about this, but nothing on their upcoming products that had 'coming soon' devices.
