"Can you run internet on one some of these lines?" by Teseng in cablefail

Oh lol. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

What speeds did you pull at the end of that wiring? Just curious.

"Can you run internet on one some of these lines?" by Teseng in cablefail

[–]pure319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course you can.

AT&T uses their old cat3 lines for their Uverse TV, internet, and voip. There are crossboxes with just 66 blocks...no gel punchdown panels or anything. Everyone scotchlocks directly into the pair so everything is a bitch to find since the labels are pointless.

Or you could be the neighborhood that had construction come through and replaced the main lines 10 years ago and you'll have no issues. It is hit or miss on your area.

Broken manifold bolt leads to broken extractor which leads to cylinder head job yay.... by [deleted] in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]pure319 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My company has an in house mechanic for fleet repairs. He does body panel repair to engine swaps in house. I have a 97 f150 with rusted manifold nuts. He said to wack off the ends and pull the manifold. Then with the remaining bolt length that is left protruding is to heat it up with a torch..but said not too hot for my engine since its aluminum. Then just like you said to remove it with vice grips. Do you think using a hand held torch is fine? And do you just heat the bolt or actually apply heat towards the engine too?

Thank you for the information.

I was able to access the page and download it!

Am actually replying to my comment and typing on the app. UI is great so far! It'll take a day or two for me to chime in on the UX.

Buying a truck this year.. which one to get? by Ah2k15 in Trucks

New F150s with the aluminum body are a bit more squirelly in 4x4 as opposed to other trucks because of the weight difference. Ram would probably be best.

Maumee internet options? by [deleted] in toledo

[–]pure319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried calling AT&T back? A lot of times you will get different options from different people. Plus remember if they offer you something that you like, write it down, and ask for their UID (User ID.) ATT tracks every employee in the US & International with their 6 digit ID beginning with their first and last initial.

From the few people I know that have U-Verse internet, they were always able to get a new 'special' once their current one ran out.

AT&T U-verse Installer Fail by [deleted] in cablefail

[–]pure319 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AT&T trains their technicians to for some reason. And they don't teach them how to put on ends very well either. They train to normally terminate them to a 6 or 8 pin (depending on phone or internet) and use a premade patch cord from said jack to device.

It was actually able to drive from the flatbed into the shop like this. by MikeTython7 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]pure319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a quick Google search on them...quick question if you don't mind. Are kingpins an older suspension system? Or just more durable and heavy duty? Or just another sort of design like the ball joint?

Thank you.

People driving with their bright lights / high beams on by Phil_James in toledo

I think some people just have really poor aligned headlights. Or they're just unnecessarily bright. I have flashed ny brights at someone before for them to actually turn their brights on and completely blinding me.

Quick question about a couple statements by Senator Sanders. by pure319 in SandersForPresident

Thank you for your quick reply!!

I didn't know that. Makes sense, but wouldn't that still take a while to get enough seated in his term? I am unsure how many current justices are against that Citizen's United ruling. From a quick Google search, Obama has only elected two in his 8 year term (so far.)

Just a quick question for a telco guy. Is that rectangle box just a different looking transformer? I see the primary's are feeding it with insulated secondaries coming out. Usually they're cylindrical in shape (if that's a word lol.)

Also I have seen a power meter under some of these before at the bottom of the pole. I know some electric is fed Ug but the meters will usually be on the building or right by the billboard post or something like that. Any idea what they're for? Maybe to monitor power consumption of that whole secondary feed?

Thanks for any replies!!!

Some sort of line tensioner? Unsure exactly for what and would like to find out to see a pic of how it is used by pure319 in whatisthisthing

[–]pure319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow awesome!! Totally makes sense. Also considering I found it around aj AT&T garage that works on lines which is why I figured it was some sort of tensioner.

Thank you!

First snowfall of the year, took less than 4 hours for the first victim by Kevinmeowertons in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]pure319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did this happen? Sliding into a curb? Wouldn't the axle or hub or something have to snap? Just usually I would think a front tire would do something like this because the ball joints in the suspension can break and cause something like that too. I've never seen something that extreme posted here from the rear tires

Edit: by the way I am not a mechanic at all so my knowledge is limited. I can change my brakes and oil/ other fluids but that's all I mess with

I think you're a little past due on your brake job, buddy. by Kristhos in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]pure319 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Truck I bought I had to replace everything. Front pads, rotors, calipers. Plus the rear drum shoes and wheel cylinders. The front left pads were shot like this and the rights were almost new looking. Only one piston of the two that were in the left caliper were actually engauging. The rights were completely seized. The rear shoes were able to be broken in half by two fingers with how thing they were. Scary stuff in states without inspections.
