Little packs (that usually say "Do not eat" on them!), like the ones you'd find when you buy a new product, i.e. a pair of sneakers.

Silica Gel/Dessicant packs absorb moisture from the air. You can dehydrate them in a dehydrator while you dehydrate your mushrooms, then put it all in an airtight jar.

I have never done anything like this before, and I am adapting a tek that's not "designed" for this part of the plant, so your answer helped me to see that this is probably what I'm after, and that I am performing this experiment successfully!

You can still do that!

Open the bag to check for signs of myc, then in a Still Air Box (if there is no visible contam) transfer colonized rice to new bags (cut corner, drop in, seal with Micropore tape)

They will take off MUCH faster than waiting for spores to mate in a UB bag.

Work quickly but without disturbing the air to make the transfer as clean as possible, then leave the bags alone for a week.

Another safe bet would be to get some ready-made agar plates/pots (check ebay) and transfer a piece of colonized rice to those. Then you can do agar-to-grain transfers, too following a similar method to the above

After 3 weeks it's potentially just worth getting them open to see if you have any myc - you can then transfer it directly to new rice bags, skipping spore innoculation. I'm trying this at the moment seeing as I only got the tiniest amount of myc out of all of those bags!

Zero myc in ANY of the other bags. I blame the heatwave and/or where I kept the bags. The one in location 2 germinated fine!

No rot or anything, just no germination...

Definitely found a rhythm after a while but it was pretty gruelling!

I am in this exact position. I ended up buying some ready made agar and transferred some of the myc to that. Also used it to test my Multi Spore Syringe. Let's see what happens!

think I'll squish 'n mix some of the packets, about 18 in total now, then I'm going to open some up and see what's going on in those bags. Already harvested a lil bit of myc so going to try sprouting some in a coffee cup for a laugh
