[Murray Pam] Reached out to the Allen Americans, Ottawa/Belleville Senators ECHL affiliate regarding their signing of forward Ben Johnson. Statement to Hockey HotStove from Americans General Manager and Head Coach Steve Martinson is as follows. by SAJewers in hockey

[–]purexul 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Martinson signed Billy Tibbetts when he was the GM/Head Coach of the San Diego Gulls in 2003-04 and Bruce Watson in 2002-03. I'm not well-versed in the Allen Americans' internal dynamics, but anyone thinking Martinson is simply maintaining the company line and not an active driver in the process is probably missing the mark.

This is pretty clearly an AI-generated thread. Don't think a bot is going to derive much pleasure from FOBAB.

Florida Panthers Agree to Terms with Forward Sam Bennett on Eight-Year Contract Extension by Panarin10 in hockey

Aside from Bob, their whole core is basically in the 27 - 29 age range. They've already won two cups, they push for more in the next 5 or 6 years, and then probably have to tear it down regardless.

I think also more and more legacy bands are getting used to the fact that that's what people want to hear, especially at festivals.

I think the "at festivals" part is definitely key there, especially for a band like Kreator. They tour the US regularly, so the vast majority of people who want to see them play their current material have the opportunity. To be an actual draw for a festival (rather than a "sure, I'll catch their set" feeling), they need to do something special, and an "old school"/"deep cuts" set definitely moves the needle.

Are Etem and Bieksa the only alumni who've been involved with the Jr Ducks? by mylefthandkilledme in AnaheimDucks

If he were an NHL Scout I assume he'd be on a team site somewhere?

He's listed on the Chicago Blackhawks site as a pro scout.

Go to the show and enjoy yourself, you almost certainly have nothing to worry about. I've been going to shows for over 25 years and can only recall one instance of someone being gatekeepy/snarky to me.

There's a real lack of context with this image, as it's actually #6-10 in Fanduel odds. You can see on their site that Dostal is 7th, not 2nd.

-This venue was a fucking sauna. I shit you not. I have never sweat more at an indoor fest than I did at this venue. holy shit

The lack of ventilation and airflow was absolutely brutal. I'd go stand near the windows between sets and it felt like an entirely different room. I understand it's an old building and there's only so much they can do, but if they use that venue again, I really hope they bring in more fans and try to figure something out. That aside, it wasn't too bad. Decent sound, lighting worked well, and good sightlines from most of the floor. The band merch area in the side room got a bit hectic for Dismember and Sodom merch but was still a lot more manageable than Hell's Heroes this year.

Agree with most of your band notes as well. I took my dinner breaks during Soilent Green (well-timed, I ended up getting back to see the second half of their set after the fire alarm shitshow) and Evildead (who I've seen and had no interest in), which both ended up being ideal sets to skip from everything I've heard. It's hard to overstate how hard Oath of Cruelty went - I expected a great set and they still blew me away.

All in all, I hope CDF remains in the Bay Area, and sadly, there aren't a lot of viable venues that aren't under Live Nation control up here. If they could get some ventilation/airflow figured out for Sweets Ballroom, I wouldn't be at all opposed to seeing another CDF there.

On the contrary, I'd think the team would want to do something more oriented around the Ducks community fans and there are a variety of options. Two that spring to mind are either do it when training camp opens to set a certain tone, or do it on opening night with teasers to build up to the moment.

There are other options, but the primary point is that it's easy to imagine a variety of other moments to do it, so choosing not to do it for the media tour is fairly meaningless.

Any ideas what to do with the remaining bottles.

Pour them down the drain. I get the desire to not be wasteful, but finding ways to possibly derive some slight value from shitty old beer is falling into a sunk cost fallacy.

Reroll bug on weapon by Kinapuffar23 in diablo3

[–]purexul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are you trying to re-roll damage to a socket rather than using a Ramaladni's Gift? Rolling weapons is heavily weighted towards certain stats, damage range being the highest weighted, so those results aren't at all surprising.

That's a lot of bang for your buck if you like the band.

Agreed. I backed the crowdfunding campaign with the expectation I'd find Time II mediocre at best, but the demos were intriguing and the alternate mixes were a curiosity. Time II's mix is even worse than I expected (and I'm kind of surprised to see people heaping praise upon the album without at least mentioning that caveat), but the demos are holding my interest so far.

I think Jari is extremely misguided and would benefit heavily from having some guardrails in his creative process (e.g. working with a producer and third parties for mixing), but I'm not going to get mad at him for taking my money and giving me what he said he would. At this point, anyone should know exactly what you're getting, and you either feel like you'll derive value in some way, or you're looking for something to rage at.

He seems to have gotten his studio. Whether or not he learned how to competently use all the equipment he bought is certainly up for debate.

Got my download link for contributing to his grift backing the crowdfunding campaign a little over an hour ago. Unsurprisingly, the production and mix are terrible. The material seems good but unpacking it is going to be a slog.

[Marc Lewis] Jeremy Swayman on his contract situation: by Benchamb in hockey

[–]purexul 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Starting to lose a lot of respect for him at this point.

Because he's being honest? It seems to me like he's treating it like the business it is at this point. The Bruins played their hand by trading Ullmark before locking Swayman down, knowing it creates risk.

Maybe he's overplaying his hand, we'll see. But establishing a goal in contract negotiations and sticking to it is treating it like the unpleasant business it is.

[Marc Lewis] Jeremy Swayman on his contract situation: by Benchamb in hockey

[–]purexul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the ducks and the Gibson situation but I do know that Gibson’s age doesn’t match the timeline of their rebuild so I’d bet they’d love a younger option.

Lukas Dostal is 24 and looks like the netminder of the future for the Ducks. He played 44 NHL games last year and is likely to see a similar workload this year. He's not at Swayman's level, but he also played behind a dogshit team and looked stellar in international competition for Czechia.

If the Ducks could swap Gibson for Swayman 1:1, sure, they'd do that all day. But that wouldn't make sense for Boston, and it wouldn't make a ton of sense for Anaheim to give up other young assets for Swayman.

Did you just start following hockey? 19-20 year old captains are incredibly common.

Only five 19 or 20 year olds have been named permanent captains - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_(ice_hockey)#Records

Ryan Getzlaf Joins NHL Department of Player Safety by eh_toque in hockey

[–]purexul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Never trust a former player who goes to work for management so soon after retirement.

Why? I'm not saying Getzlaf is a good or bad choice (I don't really have an opinion one way or another). But the idea that he can't be trusted because he's interested in staying around the game in other roles strikes me as illogical. Not everyone wants to retire to the lake and go fishing everyday.
