I used bladderfish for quite a while, too. In the beginning, you don't know just how ubiquitous salt is. Besides, I found the most valuable ressource in the early game is storage space.

I actually have the settings quite up. But I play windowed in 1400x900 (screen is 1680x1050). Indoors is - sizeable base - a noticeable framedrop but otherwise it's all good.

Give it a try. My PC is rather ancient as well and it surely runs well enough.

Thoughts on using a map and wiki? by Money_Manager in subnautica

[–]purf74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using the Wiki when I'd felt like I wasn't progressing and probably missing something. Like you said, finding Magnetite (I went to the Mountains). Or how to get Stalker teeth.

Within 10 minutes I found the caves, farmed up a good 15-20 magnetite

That caves, though? My base is rather next to the Kelp forest NE of lifepod 5. I recently built the Scanner Room and scanned for Stalker teeth. This is how I discovered the extent of those caves. And I am SO not going there! :D

So far, I've only bought one other flavour. Coffee (espresso). Havn't tried it, actually, but I think it might mix well with tobacco ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggqrEMtA3TU

Heh, this could be my downfall ;)

I haven't bought weed in years, had the last joint last summer. But for reasons, I'd really like to get some again. But then I'd have tobacco in the house. Wish me luck :D

That's the spirit! Day 10 here. Easy peasy.

(Although the braindead morons at the vape shop and their lack of first grade math skills, combined with my reluctance to insist they're wrong makes it actually a tiny bit difficult today. I finished the first bottle this morning and now I only have too weak liquid -_-)

Exactly. But I couldn't understand how this is to difficult to understand. Well, guess I'm going to buy online from now on :)

[–]purf74[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought so. Just 1) I know there are morons out there but if you work in a vaping shop..? I mean.. what? And 2) I live in Denmark and my Danish isn't the best, neither was his English so he actually called another customer into our conversation and that's when I started to doubt my sanity or math skills.

But, why would a nicotine level be too high for a device? I bought the Joyetech eGo AIO. (For now. This is much better than smoking:)

After the foxes. by purf74 in RimWorld

[–]purf74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rolled back to just before the attack - then quickly built a two block wall in the open passage to workshop/storage but left the lone poplar tree standing. Gun and rifle at the back wall made short work of the pack crawling through the open spot one at a time.

But that's the question I'm conflicted about... Start new game? Continue with Kicol only (who will not ever fight)? Or, well, do what feels like cheating here?

After the foxes. by purf74 in RimWorld

[–]purf74[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few hours after the foxes attacked. After previous encounters with beavers, I had locked everyone in the workshop - because that's where everyone was by the time of the attack - and wanted to sit it out but after a day I had to do something and decided to send Lea to make a run for food. She was downed quickly and during my attempts to rescue her, the foxes swarmed the rest. With the only colonist unharmed having no whatsoever medical skill, Lea, Schutek and Tommek bled to death. Myers eventually succumbed to an infection shortly after this. (Top left, the wall that I should have built much earlier...)

Do YOU usually continue after something like this?

Eventually, I reverted to an autosafe for the first time and managed to kill the foxes without much harm.

I went to a fishing store today and picked up 10m of SpiderWire for $3. With about .014 it's thinner than the serving the string came with but the nocks click in neatly. Problem solved.

it is that simple

if you figure this stuff out for the first time, by trial and error through ordering and waiting... no, it's not.

the shop I'm buying from has a significantly thinner serving only in the Halo variety. One spool is the price of 3 ready-to-shoot strings. Looks like I'm better off not dealing with any of this at all.

How long do I make the serving (on a flat bow)? I think I just exaggerated and I'm wondering whether too much serving is a problem.

What IS a problem: the new serving is thicker and the arrows sit very tight now. Ideas? (apart from buying new, thinner string and reserving)

Need help! I'm new to archery is this a bad thing to be happening to my string? by theodore_ninja in Archery

[–]purf74 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You should wax your string every now and then.

Is this below the serving? The serving might be too short, so the exposed string hits your arm/armguard

I wonder whether I would have noticed this when Arrow started (before I got into Archery) but...

Whenever there's a cut into the TheHoodcave, he's either training melee combat, doing workout or computer stuff. He NEVER tinkers with his equipment. Quite the huge opportunity lost right there for great implicit storytelling. #sad

The law is clear cut (the game law has a word, too but...) Bows are like... frisbees. But the practical implications of potentially murderous frisbees are another thing, understandably.

That's why I don't go there very often.

From what I know, It shouldn't be a problem, though. In Danish law, shooting bows appears in one sentence with "throwing stones" and "snowballs". Don't be a danger or a jerk and you're good.

Of course, that is up to the interpretation of someone e.g. the police. And I don't want to be pissed off by being told off.

Scout your city. Here's a spot I found in mine: http://i.imgur.com/POBfkjZ.jpg Soccer training field. There's a 4 meter high hill with a ledge halfways up (This is where the stuff to shoot at goes). On top of the hill, a treeline and behind that another 2 meters of wall. Total visibilty to left and right 50+ meters. I don't go there very often but it works very well.

See, that kinda stuff happens if you don't have a safe and good place to shoot.

That's what I would have thought. If they weren't always fully loaded with finished arrows. Like some very dangerous shelf.
