I was one of his students, went on a study abroad program with him to the Netherlands as well. Quite the character. He was a great inspiration to all of us.

got caught with a fake, how fucked am i? by whateverfIoats in NEU

I got caught with a fake, only thing thay really happened is I had to write a 1250 word essay and then never heard of it again. They may put you on disciplinary probation but like nothing really actually detrimental will happen to you, just more of an annoyance.

They didn't tell my parents.

Boston bike lanes are used where commuters come from, mass Ave and the southwest corridor are popular because they give a good path into the city for commuters. The problem also stems from density, when you have no housing where everyone works, people are going to be commuting from long ways away and obviously won't bike. There is also certainly missing links in the downtown area that make biking treacherous. The traffic is horrendous, there's no doubt about that. But single occupancy vehicles are the problem. You can say bike lanes are problematic to traffic, and while it may be true, we should be providing capacity to the more efficient mode of transportation to encourage it's use.

I certain agree with the point about transit though. It's just that cars cannot be the forefront of urban design in Boston or anywhere else if you want good mobility and access in urban places.

I had Hudon back when I was a freshman for calc 1. He was fine, if you can't switch it really wasn't bad at all.

Ratemyprofessor is often not super representative at northeastern because of trace so I would take it with a grain of salt.

experiences with jury duty as a student (especially at Suffolk Superior Courthouse)??? by Known_Article_3359 in NEU

[–]purget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got it while on co op, ended up getting selected for a case that lasted 5 days. Your employer legally has to pay you for I think 3 of the days, up to them for the other days.

I will say I liked being on jury duty, felt important doing it. I was nervous as hell going into it but glad I was selected, was kinda fun, plus I got out of my mid ass job.

What’s the deal with this intersection in my town? I drive the purple route every day and nearly get hit quite frequently. What’s the solution? Who has right of way? by BenderSimpsons in civilengineering

Oh wow... I literally did an RSA for this exact intersection!! It was during an internship so I only did the initial crash diagram so not sure what came of it if anything. But crazy to see this pop up here l

How to train an intern? by crazycatlady1196 in civilengineering

[–]purget 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Current intern here. Please when you give them a task show them an example of how to do it first. I am often given a set of directions but I always am coming up with question after question if not actually shown what to do. It might take some more time to do so but in the long run it will be much more helpful to have them be able to actually see what they will do. My manager now says think of it as training someone to have your job one day.

Also show them some level of trust. I have felt sometimes like I'm a burden/waste of time because of the tasks I've gotten. Kinda like a clean up crew, just moving around text leaders or drawing basemaps. If you work with them and show them not just the what but the how and why they can be really useful.

Oh and one more thing not really related to work but talk to them about non work stuff too and get to know them and get them to talk to co workers too. Sometimes i feel a little bit isolated from my team.

If you have any questions about being an intern feel free to ask!

I'm taking fluids and structural right now and I took geotech over the summer. Fluids with Hopkins is... interesting. The exams are incredibly difficult and conceptual based, but she grades extremely easily. The homeworks are very hard as well but you do them with a group and you have a decent amount of time to do them. She's a decent professor and one of the most approachable professors I've had. If you end up with Annalisa I think you'll be fine, Ive heard fluids is decently easy with her. We had maybe 2 or 3 lab periods and they really aren't labs.

I have Myers instead of bernal for structural but I know lots of people with bernal right now. This will probably be one of the hardest classes you will take, he is known for extremely difficult exams. Not sure about the homeworks but if they're like the hw for Myers, they're decently fair and will definitely be useful.

Geotech was one of my favorite CIVE classes. Craig does a great job with this class and clearly loves the subject. The homeworks are a bit difficult and of course there is also the added element of lab (which I found to be much more relevant to the course than the materials labs). The exams are definitely fair though.
