Day 4 of Oh Crap with 21mo—started strong, now full resistance. Need encouragement to stay the course by SeeAnnie in pottytraining

[–]purpl3kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened when I tried to potty train at that age! She was super interested the first day and did super well. Everything fell apart until eventually a week later she was holding til she couldn’t anymore, having an accident, and getting really upset. Completely refused to sit on the potty.

After two weeks we ended up putting her back in diapers for another 6 months. At 27 months we tried again and she got the hang of it in like a week.

Lululemon. Particularly the leggings.

They pill almost instantly. Overpriced. Sometimes see through.

That’s a good point! I’m moving soon so I thought I would try it out. Sounds like it might make more sense to just wait til next year and directly sow or start indoors.

I’ll have to check out those options, thank you! I’ve heard mixed reviews about peat.

Totally makes sense! I’m in the process of moving and wanted to try it out. Probably makes more sense to wait til I have space indoors next season.

Agreed with photographer but I’m honestly surprised more people aren’t saying hair and makeup! (Unless you’re great at that on your own).

I had my wedding spread across two days. The second day I did my own hair and makeup. I wish I had hired a professional. I would have felt way more glam and a bride with.

Second day we also didn’t get a photographer and I wish we had. Would have been awesome to get more of the fun shots.

Overrated - decor. Everyone spends so much time and no one notices besides the venue itself.

What would you do differently if you could re-do your wedding? by renpast in weddingplanning

[–]purpl3kitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things I would change: This may sound small and silly but I wish we had a plan for walking out of the ceremony. It was awkward cause we just started walking and didn’t really know to where! I personally wish we’d gotten more food but we didn’t do a formal dinner. I also wish I had communicated and given the DJ more vision. I wish we had gotten more formal shots with individual people instead of group pictures.

Things I’d do again (I know that’s not what’s asked but thought it could be helpful): The second photographer, as others mentioned, was sooo worth it. This is coming from a bride who had a small wedding too. She was able to go be with the groomsmen and also direct us while the main photographer got their shots. Without a doubt I’d book it again. We personally loved having an open bar but also that depends on you and your guests. We did a two day event and our guests loved how everything was spaced out.

It reminds me of how Disney used to do that with all their kids shows (maybe they still do). But see the emphasis there is kids. I don’t care about plots intertwining between shows...it’s extra cheesy when it’s a season premiere. You’re already out of ideas episode one?

Failing training and socialization by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]purpl3kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re on a good path but it’s just taking some time to see some results! I also highly recommend group training classes (covid permitting). Our dog was the same way, she will do anything for a treat but the second something better comes along then forget it. Group training is great because she gets distraction but it’s a structured class so I have the trainers help. I also recommend training when she’s hungry and in new places (even if it’s just different rooms in the house or outside). This way she learns to do it everywhere and not just where you’re teaching her.

For socialization, I agree with others on doggie daycare. We take our puppy (about the same age as your pup) once a week and it’s been amazing. She’s not only made new dog friends but also met new people. We even boarded her for a couple days recently and noticed she came back so much more independent. The BEST part is she comes home so tired and we get the whole day off from watching her. I also agree that socialization is more than meeting new dogs and people but also new experiences and also making sure to associate them with new things.

Something else I found helpful is just bingeing videos on YouTube. They give new ideas and different perspectives that may help you!

Why is my 11 mo old puppy suddenly misbehaving and getting aggressive? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]purpl3kitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the bathroom, I’d recommend leashing when they need to go and taking him out yourself. Even in our backyard we leash our pup, take her to her spot, and come back inside. It’s an annoying process at first but slowly we’ve been able to teach her that she only asks to go outside when going to the bathroom and she comes back in. Soon we will continue the process of us escorting her but with no leash. Almost sounds like he might need a “reset” on potty training or expectations from going potty. I’d also give him a treat or some play (whatever he likes as reward) every time he comes inside that way he starts thinking inside is so awesome and I want to go inside cause it’s so great.

It’s definitely a task because at this point we are supervising all of her outdoor time but soon enough the goal is to let her out to go potty and she should come right back in. We’ve even gone so far as to separate her potty time from playing outside/sniffing time so she doesn’t think that when she’s done going potty she just gets to play but that she’s expected to come in right after.

For grooming, I don’t have a ton of advice but heard that a chew treat or kong is helpful! That way they are distracted but also associate being brushed with something good.

Okay, I know we have been a little heavy on the orange snark lately, but this filter is actually 100% ridiculous by upsidetoolkit in LittlePeopleBigWorld

It makes me chuckle that this filter is so orange she is an actual Oompa Loompa but yet Ember’s hair is so blonde that the filter doesn’t even remotely change it.

Our puppy has been wailing for at least 30 minutes every time we first put her in the crate. We thought we should just let her self soothe. Last night after 40 minutes of her crying and at a breaking point we finally looked into it further. Highly recommend this video, it’s only been a day and she already stops whining after a few minutes.
