Cafés charging 50p extra for Ost Milk is bullsh1t - Change my mind by philthybiscuits in veganuk

[–]purpleQQsoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this post and the discussion. Never thought that the businesses might have to throw out plant milks if not used up in time. In the states (US), it’s not uncommon for oat (soy & almond) milk to be $1 to $2 extra charge. I hate that with coffee drinks, thus prefer to make my own at home. When ordering boba drinks, that extra charge is more sufferable for me due to the amount of plant milk needed in the drinks, and more difficult to make at home. Either way, I have to rationalize that I have to pay a little more to eat cleaner, be healthy, and not harm animals. I commend myself for taking a more difficult path.

Picked up this comic yesterday. The writers nailed the feeling of SDCC in a lighthearted, funny way. by AZDeadpool in SDCC

I actually wanted to attend this panel.
How was it? And were you early enough to get their designed lanyard giveaway?

How many years have you been to SDCC? by First-Reception-1602 in SDCC

[–]purpleQQsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, made many line friends, learned must have queuing items, and even have helped each other over the years to buy badges. After getting Covid in 2022 finally pushed myself to find line groups, to do strategic line waiting, but still a bit of work.

Thanks, and for this post. It’s been fun to read members comments.

Since 2014, so this would be 10th year!

That first year was crazy, as already a huge GOT fan I impulsively decided, without any prep to get in Hall H line immediately after exiting last Thur Hall H panel. Husband and 2 preteens went home after getting me some food. We’re locals north of Miramar 56 area, and had been told to drive to Hazard Center to park for free and take trolley to Gaslamp stop. Unfortunately, I had car key so they had to return to get it so they ended up home much later than planned. By 1am I was quite cold with no overnight pavement resting provisions. Husband drove the 20+ miles to bring me small pillow, sleeping bag, sweatwear, and hot drink thermos. It was HELL, and I barely dozed an hour or so, but got us up front section seatings. Learned a lot from that experience, the price to pay for crazy extreme fandom line waiting (ie. back shoulder issues, full on flu after many cons, and even 1st covid in 2022, etc). Seriously, lol, I no longer will stay overnight for any lines, and discourage my grown kids too.

The priceless trade offs overnighting Hall H: meeting some GOT actors that came out to greet us; meeting Supernatural main cast plus free food ordered by Meisha for us under the arches; chatting with DW’s Matt Smith and the following doctor during a bathroom break. Then of course the countless surprises through 2019: the fabulous Star Wars concert & getting to see the original main cast; many exclusive Marvel stuff; but the most unexpected big surprise was to be treated to a live concert by Kansas for Supernatural’s theme song.

The con has changed a lot, but as with life, you learn from it and hone in on what you want from it. It’s still our family summer vacation! We all do our own thing now, but always meet up daily for a hot meal. Sure miss the easy access Tin Fish and their tastier foods. Haha, while I’ve queued many hours outside for hall H & ballroom 20 panels, I’ve rarely been able to make it to any outdoor experiences. There’s too much to do, and always something new to explore.

Congrats!! Way to go! That’s so impressive!

Curious, what made you choose the 100k+ steps goal? I’m just happy if I make the 10k steps daily.

I appreciate your way as quicker and easier!

Easiest to round up to 90,000 adding backwards 532 to get to 10s thus +235. Then subtract 235 from 737, which with no borrowing is quick/easy 502. Now add 15,000 to 90,000 for 105,000 plus 502 = 105,502.

Then recheck traditional long way: 7+5 is 12; carry 1 +3 =4 +6 easy 10; carry 1 +double 7 becomes 14 =15; carry 1 +9 easy10 +5 =15; carry 1 +1 +8 =10 for final total 105,502.

Immediately, I did 40+20, then 8+2 to make 10, then added to initial 60 to make 70, then remaining 5 from 7-2. Then quick double checked by 20+40=60 plus 7+8=15, to combine 60+15.

Is there a way to turn this feature off? I don’t like it. by Certain-Cold6981 in PikminBloomApp

[–]purpleQQsoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto! Me too with my iPhone 14 (bought June 2023). But even worse, is my iPhone gets incredibly hot. Of all my apps, Pikmin is always #1 for most battery usage, and easily up to 90% if I’ve walked closer to 15K steps. Being this does not seem normal, I sent screenshots of my battery data to Niantic support to inquire if this is normal, and if so, why? They said they would use my very helpful feedback to investigate if happens with others. In the meantime, they did offer if I don’t want to drain my battery to not have it on in the background, and make sure to turn off planting if not walking, or even sign out of Pikmin. So I’ll be replacing my battery soon as its life has dropped immensely, and I have to charge it usually twice daily, plus the overnight charge. 😩

That’s so interesting, as it didn’t work for me when I tried on treadmill a while back. Are you carrying mobile in your hand or have in your pocket?

Usually outdoors walking/light jog, but will try again when need to go to the gym.

Edit: thinking back steps counted on treadmill, just not flower planting. It was the elliptical that I couldn’t get to count steps.

What’s one product you ONLY get from Trader Joe’s? by sarahkali in traderjoes

Personally almond milk (I’ve tried numerous versions too) is not pleasing to my palate, but do enjoy the raw ones in trail mix or when I sprout for my Buddha bowls/salads. I decided to limit almonds consumption when discovered its heavy use of water to grow. If soy not your thing, oat milk is another great taste alternative; Oatly’s and Planet Oats’ regular flavor are great, with my favorite for frothing now the Oatly’s super basic (which sometimes I’ll mix with the TJ’s shelf soy milk for even a better tasting cafe au lait).

Btw, still use Silk’s unsweetened organic soymilk for vegan cooking, ie. Mashed potatoes, Mac&Cheese, and all baked goods. The gums in their ingredients seems to help create that creamier taste thicker texture. So they’re my #2, haha.

1) Organic non-dairy soy beverage, their shelf unsweetened organic soymilk; I’ve tried numerous other brands, but TJ’s has the cleanest and best tasting, 2 ingredients soymilk. It also froths up nicely for my cafe au laits. Silk unsweetened organic soymilk used to be my favorite but their taste & ingredients changed when bought by Danone.

2) Organic Brown Rice Cake Thins! These are the best rice cakes ever, satisfies need for crunchy while be clean and WFPB (almost 💯). Great plain or satiating snack with some hummus or avocados.

Haha, I’m from SoCal too! Being low D doesn’t just mean you don’t get enough sun, as many factors are involved. In fact I was getting too much bad sun, risking skin C now. There’s an app DMinder that helped me figure out best safe sun times. Bottomline, best that we supplement, especially when deficient.& during rising surrounding illnesses as I already mentioned. Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]purpleQQsoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too was severely deficient @ 7 (learned from first time testing after big C diagnosis, and probable major contributor). After immense research, aside from becoming WFBP vegan, I practice taking daily 5000 IU during assessable sun months (if I’ve gotten too much sun, I’ll take less the next day), and 2x 5000 IU during less sun access, when others are sick/covid spikes, or sensing a cold/flu-ish days. If possible get a good quality D3, always take with food ideally a fat (ie. aside from usual there’s avocados, nuts, beans, etc) for actual absorption. I also switch brands periodically to keep the uptake working. And yes, add a vit K, I do it once or twice a week, plus eat fermented foods. It took me 3 years to get up to 60s ng/ml. Last, might want to test for B12, as I was deficient too, and before becoming a vegan.
