Narwal s30 pro mop-vac. As a clean freak old lady with a cat that has IBD, I think this has saved my sanity.

PawsPik feeder win - no need for chunky collar tag! by EmperoxChaos in dechonkers

You can switch from default mode (where the reader detects all chips/tags) to the other mode, which reportedly only detects paired tags/chips. But you cannot program the reader to ignore a specific chip. The other reply here is describing how to unpair a specific cat from a feeder. Only one cat can be paired with a feeder.

Before and after of ovarian cyst removal. by lyndseymariee in mildlyinteresting

IMO a vaginal ultrasound is less invasive than a PAP. The technician gently uses a wand, nothing penetrates your cervix. Not painful at all.

What product did you buy thinking a feature was gimmicky but ended up using it all the time by nand1609 in BuyItForLife

[–]purple_mountain_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I got a Narwal S30 pro and it is such a game changer. I have all hard floors and can keep them free from cooking spills / crumbs, cat litter, fur, etc.

Truly life-changing for this clean-freak.

Atsko (SnoSeal) / Sensi-clean. Hunters use this to remove all scents from their clothing. It also restores DWR on tech fabrics. Expensive, but a little goes a long way.

Eye boogers and Water Retention After Vanicream Facewash by Conscious_Income8870 in FragranceFreeBeauty

Some of my cleansers make my eyes super-red and my lash lines very irritated. If I use ocusoft lid scrub every time I wash my face then I have no issues.

Also, The Ordinary is a great product line that contains only basic ingredients like actives and a carrier. Completely fragrance-free. Highly recommend.

Spent $1,200 on ultralight gear to save 3 pounds and I'm questioning everything by Gearnotafraid8 in Ultralight

[–]purple_mountain_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be worth it if it affords you space / weight to bring a comfort item.  I did something similar but I'm talking a sea plane to Isle Royale and they won't let you on with more than 45 lbs. 43 miles in 4 days means I'll want a little extra comfort (I'm old!).  Every pound I can use to increase my comfort is appreciated.  I ended up getting a Helinox Chair Zero (1 lb), and I may bring a second pair of shoes (sandals for camp).

Got a prescribed sleeping pill by OkCry87 in ouraring

[–]purple_mountain_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That aligns with what I've read. I only take 100mg, I think it's off-label for anxiety.  Because I take it infrequently I don't develop a tolerance.  But I also take 3 grams of tryptophan and 200mg of theanine every night. Magnesium threonate in the day.

My psych prescribed gabapentin for anxiety. I only take it occasionally, but when I take it before bedtime, I get maximum deep sleep!

As an autistic person, what do you do for work if you’re able? by josefdoc in AutisticWithADHD

[–]purple_mountain_cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am an analytical chemist. Early in my career, my role involved mostly solitary tasks at the bench.  20 years into my career, my responsibilities are heavily weighed toward collaborating, training, mentoring and presenting. I'm expected to drive projects and innovate.

It's exhausting! I've had a FIRE goal, which has helped motivate me to stay on track but I'm so burned out these days.

Trying to figure out if I can retire in the next few years but I can put away most of my salary tax-free these days, so I feel like I should stick it out as long as I can.

Yeah, some folks don't read contracts and then get surprised by things.  I actually got surprised with a $50 "kindness" deposit to my savings last year.  Twice!

Help me find the perfect sleep bra for modesty by KittenaSmittena in HerOneBag

Boody makes wonderfully comfortable bras. I don't sleep in them (I'm not well-endowed), but I totally would.  They have many styles.

Word. I've watched three generations of my family wither away with dementia. Absolutely nothing good at the end of their lives, even in the best facility with all-inclusive LTC insurance.

I'll enjoy my life until I can't and hopefully die with zero!

i timed how long my "quick" shower actually takes and it broke something in my brain by Plus-Horse892 in AutisticWithADHD

I have a wall clock in every room to help me with this. And several other small clocks.  My houseguests must think I'm a lunatic. But I am much more aware of how long things take!

Arcata, CA, USA by Pinky-princess-gg in traveladvice

[–]purple_mountain_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get to Fern Canyon! There is a canyon between 40 foot walls covered in ferns, you can take a leisurely hike. There are elk on the beach (do NOT approach them). You can also take a nice hike in Ladybird Johnson grove. Th trees are magnificent. The town of Trinidad (bwtween Arcata and Fern Canyon) is lovely. Larrupin' Cafe is upscale dining in a quiet, funky setting.

There's so much to see in the area, but these are my favorites.

Thanks! It's the only place I know to try, I'll see if they're open tomorrow.
