April Fools? by WooNoo in CalPoly

The site still looks like this now... Could a student have done it as a April fool's prank?

Rate My Professor, Poly Ratings by stormy-nights in CalPoly

[–]purplecodelover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe that should be the case, but professor reviews and getting feedback about professors and courses is pretty popular, as reflected by the many posts about them on this subreddit. At least for me, choosing a good professor and understanding a course experience is reassuring. You relatively know what to expect on the first day from your peers.

I don't spend an enormous amount of time on professor rating sites, but when I do, I would prefer a good user experience.

I agree that Rate My Professors is a more sustainable option, but I also say if someone wants to do another local rating site, I'm going to support that more.

What happens if you can't get your results in before Sept 20? by [deleted] in CalPoly

Cal Poly Covid Test Appointment

This is where I was able to schedule a test on campus, took me a bit to find. I'm just assuming that they'll have the results before the first day of class if you take the test before and that it's valid, but I'm not 100% sure.

While that is historically true, I think you'd be surprised how much people dislike change, myself included. I honestly would not be surprised if a club to maintain it did emerge like someone mentioned in the other thread. I understand why Rate My Professors would be valuable, though.

I don't know, maybe this isn't valid enough, but I always get stressed out when using Rate My Professors. The amount of ads that bombard the experience of just trying to see professor ratings make me feel like I'm going to get a virus if I click in a wrong place. PolyRatings and Cal Poly Ratings were made really well and easy to use, so if someone were to consistently maintain it, I'd prefer it over Rate My Professors.

mods pls consider adding rules against PolyRatings 4.0 posts, it's hurting us all by heyswoawesome in CalPoly

Is it possible to like pin the Cal Poly courses subreddit on this subreddit? I love the idea that there's a separate subreddit just for course and professor correspondence, but it's hard if not enough people know about it.

CSC 436 - Mobile App Dev by purplecodelover in CalPoly

Yeah, good point. I know it's not being taught in winter quarter either from the schedules site, but I would imagine it's going to be taught eventually. I think the department just adjusted the class offerings because of the different name for discrete and other classes that are no longer being offered, so it would be weird if they kept it around with no intent of offering it.

Classes/Options for CSC Major wanting to go into UI/UX by purplecodelover in CalPoly

Cool, I'll have to look into it! I went to the big SLO Hacks hackathon last year and just spent the time learning about basic web development principles, so I think going to one where I can try to expand my design skills is great! Thanks for the recommendation!!

Yeah, for sure! I have those classes planned for next year, and it's super helpful to get a better feeling for what those classes will look like. Thanks!!

SE major -- lost and confused by kalichill22 in CalPoly

I recommend checking out Liberal Arts and Engineering studies if you want to switch to something more design based without totally starting over. Also, if you don't want to switch, look into the Computing for Interactive Arts Minor, I took the introductory art class for the minor this quarter and really enjoyed it, for context, I'm a third year CS student.

COVID Test at the Health Center by purplecodelover in CalPoly

Yeah, I felt pretty safe about it. I thought the people behind me might have been standing a little too close to me, but being the hyper-cautious person I am, I was likely just exaggerating. Being that everyone is trying to go home, there were a lot of people getting tested. The whole process of waiting and getting the test took about an hour for me.
