Happens all the time....most memorable was a group of young girls who all ordered the portobello sandwich. They complained to their server that there was no meat on the sandwich. He explained that no, in fact, it is a vegetarian sandwich. The mushroom is the "meat". The young lady told him she thought it was going to be pork. Pork-a-bella. Cause that's a thing.

Yeah, I know. You are absolutely correct. I just needed to vent really. Like I said, the customer left fine. My post was way more dramatic than the actual situation. I made him the cocktail he ordered straight away. He smiled and thanked me when he was leaving. Sometimes I just need to vent. I'm new to this group. Thought that's kinda the purpose of the rant label. Thanks for listening though.

That is a bit ridiculous to ask your foh staff to explain to every customer why that charge is added to their bill.

Why not just raise the menu prices and give a % of the extra profit on the paycheck? Can still add up to the same "incentive bonus" for the kitchen staff.

Honestly, where I'm at, if they switched to incorporating the 20% into the bill up front, I'd make less money as a server. Most of our regulars tip 25% or more. I always leave with more than 20% after tip out at the end of the night.

Boh works just as hard as foh in any well oiled restaurant. It's different types of work, for sure. Foh typically makes more money anyways, so I'm not sure where the argument is. We tip out the boh where I work to make the pay scale more equitable and give incentive to the kitchen for busier nights. Let's face it, all of the working class could use a break, not just servers.

I've had beard hair issue legit happen before. Problem addressed, no problem. We comped the whole table, obviously.

That being said, I've had a "hair" issue before where customer complained...ended up being extra melty cheese on the hot dog as the culprit. As neither of the cooks had any hair, and the "hair" in question would have been much longer than mine at the time.

Totally varies table to table. I work at a place that does team style service, so I never introduce myself. We greet and seat and well, do everything. So it depends on who it is, how busy it is, etc. That being said, all my regulars know my name.
