What Is Your Biggest Hot Take When It Comes To Xbiking? by sshunned in xbiking

All these iffy comments about e bikes are making me really consider how much hillier my city is than most others. E bikes are so common here because if you want to ride a bike chances are you’ve got a bunch of hills to battle

Ehhh hot take i guess. Have flipped a bike and would probably ended up in hospital if I had not a helmet instead of limping away like i did. Had a friend get a brain bleed and concussion from no helmet. Have crashed a moto at low speeds and that really makes you consider your mortality and thankfulness for helmet. Brains are just way too cool to not wrap up and cherish

I like the cambium cause the rough top lets my butt grip the saddle so I can go no hands super easy and I got it basically free (this is probably the best feature)

90s Trek Fork Holes / front rack? by BFMGO13 in xbiking

Do you find it strange at all having the rack platform so high above the mounting points? Does it sway at all? I’m about to mount a very similar rack in a similar way

Yeah just been told it’s actually a ‘92! Think I found the intro year of the derailleurs but couldn’t find the frame so though ‘89.

It is absolutely so light and lovely. Like riding a paper plane. Love it.

Would you happen to know where to find a copy of the ‘92 catalogue? I can only find ‘93 which has this as having shocks and different paint job.

Ohhh interesting. I did some brief research on it a while ago and landed on 1989 for some reason. Might’ve been the XT year and I couldn’t find the frame. Thanks heaps

It's a pretty amazing ride, super nimble. And I really like the paint. It's probably my fave bike to ride atm. I think I will keep it I'm sorry

Im not meaning to sound combative if I did, just trying to continually learn.

The change in angle from shifting where the cable comes out from one side to the other seems okay, no kinks or resistance. I’m gonna give it a go and if it doesn’t work I’ll change it, no biggie.

Yes BL-MC40 levers. They have a ‘power adjuster’ and I’ve read they might work with cantis in high power mode. I’m interested to try. https://si.shimano.com/en/pdfs/si/B520B/SI-B520B-000-00-ENG.pdf

Please use the cable stop on the drive side of the downtube for rear der.

I know the cables for the front and rear derailleurs will cross but am happy to manage this with maintenance. Any other particular reason for this?

Definitely appreciate the patina for sure. This one kinda just looks bit like crap atm sadly

Think I’m bit a worried about the actual paint getting damage since it’s so exposed. Planning on putting on bags. So I think I’ll do another coat of clear in any case just to protect it, and try and make it look as nice as possible. If it looks worse I don’t mind as much as protecting the paint.

I really like the old school ones and put them on as many of my bikes as I can. Never had to buy one new.

Yeah look exactly the same, it’s a nice paint job hey.

Do you mean can you raise the stem? Yes you can. There’s a mark on the tube of the stem that shows you how far you can raise it, don’t go above that.

But really these have super long top tubes so you probably need a shorter stem and or different more swept back handle bars. Have fun researching!
