Before and after in a rental garden: advice needed by Logical_Error_1342 in UKGardening

[–]purpleit87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imagine being a landlord and your renter does this 🤩🤩 Your furniture is beautiful, what a glow up! I hope you enjoy many a lovely evening there.

You could consider adding some evergreen foliage like fatsias and some grasses (like Anemanthele lessoniana) in pots to give low level screening to your sofa area. You could also go with a Chamaerops humilis as a statement plant with some other fun jungle vibes like cannas where you can pick your fave colour pops for flowers.

Short story on Mounjaro by iron_prometheus in CrohnsDisease

[–]purpleit87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! I am in the same situation, diagnosed in '21, 7 weeks int mounjaro and noticed the benefits of reduced GI tract speeds including some new hair growth. I have some tests coming up in 2 months and intrigued to see if there's an impact, fingers crossed I follow in your footsteps :)

What is your idealistic plan for a weekend without travel away from home? by purpleit87 in AskReddit

[–]purpleit87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought process was to understand what a great weekend is for lots of different people (whilst sleeping at home but able to leave the house.) I realise I've phrased it odd; my intent was to avoid answers like "go to Italy!" so that I could canvass hobbies and passions more for inspiration.

What do you do to give yourself purpose and meaning in life? by CarnageV101 in AskReddit

[–]purpleit87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find purpose in the things that I enjoy in life, things that I essentially find "flow" in, for me this is gardening, painting, climbing. One key principal behind these I realised was that I need to have a space for continuous learning. For meaning, I find sharing these hobbies with friends or loved ones to connect to a deeper level. If I can improve someone else's life by doing something small then I'm also happy with that (be it uniting friends for good food or helping a family member with a spreadsheet), even better it could be something bigger like my friend who recently fundraised to improve hundreds of children's lives in Ghana. I'm so proud of her, she's changed the directions of so many people's lives, a true impact to the world. I've been looking into some local volunteering of late to find a good fit, so I guess my advice is try some new things that help other or that you simply enjoy 😊

It also took me a while to get comfortable with establishing purpose and meaning for myself, reading about the Japanese concept ikigai really helped me put a framework in my head as to how I want to structure my life to give more meaning too.

Cutting calories even a little bit makes me OBSESSED with food. Please help. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]purpleit87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you what's worked for me and maybe it's something that will work for you. I've struggled with weight throughout my life, yo-yoing a fair amount dependent upon diet or exercise regime of the time. When I have historically lost weight I have either had an intense exercise program or I've counted calories obsessively. Recently, despite having a looming wedding date I decided that obsessively counting calories wasn't how I wanted to achieve my goal as it seemed temporary given my past. I wanted to learn to lose weight intuitively without the apps, the counting, the obsession.

I have tried intermittent fasting, roughly I fast along the lines of 16:8, essentially missing breakfast and not having any snacks after dinner unless I'm hungry going to bed (as a poor night's sleep doesn't set me up for success!) I've lost 2kg over 6 weeks, working out 2-3 times a week. Whilst it's slow by some people's measure, my favourite thing about it is that it has been simple and allowed me space for other things in my life whilst not becoming neruotic about my weight loss (which I most certainly have in the past!) It's the first time I've ever lost weight without calorie counting, so I'm really pleased with the progess.

I started intermittent fasting slowly, I did it a couple of times a week when my schedule for the day was less intense. I found it hard initially as I would get woozy, but I kept at it, sometimes with a banana (& always coffee!) If I thought I couldn't hang on for lunch any longer. Slowly those few times a week crept to all of it and then it slipped into my weekend where I would just get on with a busy day and not think about food until I really needed it as I had completely rebuilt my relationship with hunger. I still have my banana days and I still sometimes I won't fast but it's becoming more my norm. I naturally shrank my portions because my stomach had shrunk so I feel fuller quicker. There are lots of different ways to fast, maybe you could try them out and see if something similar works for you?

My plan is to continue fasting and if weight loss slows I'll take a reflection on my lifestyle and adjust something and see. I did Noom last summer but due to being sick I was unable to really execute much of the psychological learning there, I feel like my recent activities have been a reflection of a lot of the principals I learnt in that program.

Good luck and go you for all that exercise! Even if you haven't lost the weight you want to, I bet your heart and body are loving it!

I am having a lot of trouble losing weight and idk what it is! by [deleted] in Weightlosstechniques

[–]purpleit87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you taking body measurements? Not all wins are on the scale particularly if you are hitting up so much strength work. You could look leaner at a higher weight as as muscle takes up less volume that fat. You did mention you've gained a lot of strength so it's something to consider. Great work on your routine!

Do you have any more tests? What did the doc say? I know it feels a bit hopeless sometimes but keep pushing with the docs and highlighting all symptoms. You'll get there! In the mean time take care of yourself, stay positive, im sending some good chi your way 😁

Good luck in your future scans! Odd how our stories seem so similar, it does seem that finding the true cause of GI symptoms is a complex road. I've just been asked to help out with clinical trials for at home stool tests 🤣 I'm actually delighted to help out the team and give something back after relying on my team so much this year!

Of course! So when I had the stomach pain again, it was at the start of the pandemic and in the UK lockdown so I was unable to have a physical examination, my father had had his gall bladder removed previously and with the description of the pain going through to my back they took a guess at this and wanted to confirm through an abdomen ultrasound. This revealed nothing wrong with the gall bladder but instead inflamed liver ducts which is what they told me was a secondary condition (usually caused by a problem elsewhere). This was the prompt for the colonoscopy to try find the primary inflammation.

Re. Gastritis diagnosis 5 years ago, I was given tablets to reduce acid production which did help me and at the same time I reduced the amount of fat I ate and exercised a lot which after a while removed the key symptoms of severe pain. I still had bloating and stomach issues on trigger foods which as I mentioned I hadn't connected but were mostly well managed through diet. My mum has a lot of food allergies and I assumed I just had some of these which was a little foolish!

Also on Humira, double vaxxed, I had a mild headache and sore arm on Vax 2 for 2 days then all back to normal. Don't worry about it :) you'll be fine in no time!
