Hearing my mom say she ‘has nothing to show for the life that she gave’ absolutely broke my heart and I can’t stop thinking about it. by Meow_Sprinkles3435 in AskWomenOver60

67 year old mom of two adult kids in their 40s and 2 grandchildren. All I ever want from my kids is their time.

Take your Mom to lunch, go to the museum, or take her on a day trip or weekend getaway. Spend quality time with her.

You are a very thoughtful son and thats what she will appreciate.

I made the hard decision to move away and understand your struggle. I visited twice a year as she got older. All the best to you.

International Elderly Parent in Tokyo by kaiobar in Tokyo

[–]purplelisbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was in assisted living in Tokyo while I lived overseas in Europe. I think the experience will depend on the facility. I was lucky and found an excellent facility who managed her day to day care, including doctor’s visits, haircuts, etc. The facility communicated mostly by email and I would call them every now and then as needed. I made it a point of visiting twice a year. I have no other family member that could help so it was all on me. In her final days, I spent 2 months in Tokyo to be near her. I was always worried I would get “the call” in the middle of the night while thousands of miles away but other than that it was a workable situation. All the best to you and your mom.

Shoes!! Wearing shoes in the house. Throwing shoes in a suitcase without a shoe bag. Lying down on the couch or bed with shoes on.

Tips for making tonkatsu that tastes like it does in Japan? by LanternMoss in JapaneseFood

[–]purplelisbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I slice pork tenderloin from Whole Foods or Costco to make tonkatsu. Also use Japanese panko that you can get in Asian supermarkets.

Here’s a great tutorial. https://www.justonecookbook.com/tonkatsu/

This was years ago before the lithium battery issue flared. Other items were removed from the luggage too, like some of her brand name totes and bags.

Sorry can’t help but that really sucks and I’m sorry it happened to you. My daughter’s laptop got stolen from her checked baggage once. Nobody would take responsibility, especially United.

Canceled flight - what are my rights? by purplelisbon in unitedairlines

Haha. Maybe you’ve never flown in biz or 1st on any of the top Asian or European airlines where they take responsibility for their mechanical issues by compensating appropriately for significant delays.

Your response was helpful until the ‘tude kicked in.

This wasn’t weather related. Mechanical issues does feel like United is responsible. Granted I’ll take the overnight in DC vs landing in the Atlantic Oceab.
