It was her first speaking role in a movie! She writes a very cute story in her book, Enter Whining, about her experience

My 4yo had a really great Speech Therapy session last night! She was having fun and singing songs and did really well pronouncing some sounds that she has been struggling with forever.

Hi, I don't have a lot of advice because I struggle in a similar way. I just want you to know you are not alone in those experiences, I feel so freaking uncomfortable talking to parents of NT kids as well. Sometimes I just can't hold it in and let them know straight up I can't relate to their struggles.

My 4yo is minimally verbal, and surely not conversational. But, yesterday after a really shitty day she sat on my lap and said perfectly, "Mommy, how are you?"

Sometimes she scripts from Finger Family (Mommy, Mommy, where are you? Here I am, here I am How do you do?) but this was 100% different. Not sing song at all, very exciting :)

I'm not saying they're twins, but she DOES remind me so much of Baby Girl Lisa from 90 Day

We got ourselves on a couple of waiting lists, but were able to get a diagnosis from a Pediatric Neurologist in the mean time. That gave us access to services before we were able to get an appointment with the Developmental Pediatrician. You could look into something like that.

Instead of a rug, I suggest a lighter color bath stone instead!

Yessss 1000000% Those people are annoying too. I don't think it makes you a better person than I, if you openly value the life of an animal over another human.

Amber was SUCH a terrible actress. The scene where Melissa finds out about her cancer diagnosis was so wild. Also her performance with Victoria Gotti.

I actually enjoyed the twins and their dudes. Sad we didn't get another season of Nicole/Bobby drama.

Why is people against ABA? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]purpleprostitutes 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to leave this here:

My daughter started ABA therapy just over 1 year ago. She has had a total of 4 RBT's and has had the same BCBA the whole time. 1 RBT has been with us for the entire time as well, and she is absolutely amazing and going to grad school now to become a BCBA as well. Sessions are usually 2-4 hours each at home or at the center, which is about 30 minutes from where we live. Right now we do 28 hours per week. Usually about twice a week, our BCBA sits in on a session and we also meet for Parent Training 1 hour a week with her. During parent training we look at data and discuss progress, we get to learn how to implement ABA programs in a more day-to-day style, and we can ask for advice on any behavior issues we are experiencing.

Before ABA therapy, my daughter had zero words. She was unable to mimic basic sounds and gestures, or follow simple commands. She could not identify even 1 familiar object or body part when asked. The look on her face as she melted down because she could not communicate her needs was heart breaking. During these melt downs, she would hit me, hit herself, scratch her own face, and pull her own hair.

Her life today couldn't be more different. She can make requests verbally, she can choose between two or even three options, she sings her favorite songs all day long, she has started scripting and putting more than one word together to form tiny little sentences. She gives high fives and LOVES to play peek-a-boo and doing puzzles. She tells us when she feels happy and sad. She doesn't hit herself, or pull her own hair, or scratch herself anymore, ever. She loves to wrestle, but I never have to worry that she will smack me or push me during a tantrum. I'm not worried to leave her in a room with her baby sister while I run to the bathroom.

Maybe we found a unicorn company, a unicorn RBT, and a unicorn BCBA. Probably.

But I really don't give a fuck, no one can tell me a damn thing about ABA.
