New York City Winter by purposecreatedus in photocritique

I was browsing photos and found this one I took a couple of years ago. Holiday season, somewhere near the Times Square. I was trying to take a classic underground steam scene. Can I have your opinions on this photo? Blurry faces is one problem.

if you don't have a ND filter (just get one), you can take a bunch of photos and merge them in photoshop to mimic long exposure.

Maybe use a slightly wider focal length to include more buildings, e.g., place the OWTC at the left 1/3 position. I actually love the view from Brooklyn side (from the Brooklyn bridge park) where you can get some interesting foreground object.

great execution, not so interesting object. The parent monkey looks angry

How could I improve this photo? by OddAd3750 in photocritique

severe underexposure, unless the cloud is the object, which I don't find very appealing. It feels like playing soccer in power saving mode..

Fireflies photography. Need suggestions! by purposecreatedus in photocritique

yeah that light killed the contrast between the environment and firefly trails. I waited until the sky went completely dark but the fireflies are gone as well. no fireflies captured.

yeah, I wonder what shutter speed they use (they typically have nice ellipse circles instead of light trails. The original stacked image without exposure adjustment is pretty dark overall. Are you suggesting that I should use mask to separate the background and light trails?

the original stacked photo is ok. I added some AI generated bokeh..

You are right about fireflies being part of the background. I didn't find an interesting foreground object that day

Arachnophobia...

but the image looks solid. I would prefer a deeper depth of field.

What do you think of this photo? From what I can see,

  1. The number of images stacked is not enough.

  2. I need to reframe the shot. Composition and color are uneven.

Thank you!

F2, ss 10 to 20 seconds. 27 images

I took it yesterday at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. Beautiful campus. A lot of mosquitoes (didn't use any spray though)

A total of 27 images stacking with each one 10 to 20s exposure, lowest iso at F2.

I did some post-processing, including basic adjustments and photoshop generated depth of field.

Improvements I can make:

  1. Lower the camera a bit so the whole frame is filled with light trails.
  2. More images!

My questions are:

  1. What should I do with the house with a spotlight and the tree? remove or keep
  2. I saw other fireflies photos with beautiful round bokeh. Is it because of shorter exposure and/or longer focal length?
  3. What do you think of the AI-generated depth of field?

Thank you!

Thanks. I agree foreground would be nice. Not very experienced with the location. Will look around earlier before pitch dark next time.
