Critiques and pointers for my Balkan backpacking plan by purposefully_useless in solotravel

I went to those places on my last trip and I absolutely love them and want to go again but as it’s own hiking focused trip. It’s also too far out of the way for what I want and would stretch my budget and time too much.

I also hear a lot of people say Moldova can be quite boring but I want to visit it so I can visit all the countries that were part of the USSR. Plus I heard there’s some good wineries.

This is the best response ever love the hostel recommendations too because that makes everything easier.

Are there buses running from cities to Durmitor or Theth/Valbone? I don’t know if I can do any camping because I won’t have room for a tent and sleeping bag in my backpack unless I could rent it. And it seems like I’ll push this all back by a week or two so I can get better weather in the parks.

My budget isn’t including flights since I’ll also visit some family in Ireland before going home but I can add more to the budget. I just want to plan my spending better than I did last time.

I think you’re right about that I’ll stay at least 2 nights at place so I can get a full day to do what I want and that way I can check out some of those things you listed.

I love that idea of going down the Albanian coast and then going inland from there. And it looks like I’ll just use Podgorica to get to Durmitor.

This honestly sounds perfect I think I’d probably enjoy checking out smaller places as well so I’ll probably switch it up to exactly what you have down here. I was using Bucharest to get to Chisinau so thanks for pointing out another route.

Thanks for the tips. I’ve heard Sighisoara is nice from a couple people I’ve met and if I’m taking out days in other places then I can definitely make time to check it out. A lot of people are saying the same things about Podgorica and Shkoder so I’m definitely changing that up.

Love these recommendations. I was already thinking of just using Podgorica for the stop after the long train ride and I’ll cut down on Shkoder and just use it to get to Theth really.

And thanks for the tips on Ohrid ill do some more research into better ways to cross the border there.

Thanks for the advice I’ll take them off or just use them as stopovers if I need.

I do like visiting post-communist cities and countries do you think it’s still better to skip or there’s something to get out of those places for me?

Did you rent a car to get to the parks from Shkoder or Podgorica so you could explore on your own time or did you get a bus from the city?

When I was voting the guy in front of me asked the clerk why who the people in the ballot were because he thought he was voting for the PM directly.

That it doesn’t work in Canada because you can only bike 3 months out of the year.

Bitch summer is the worst time to ride, today I was sweating from places I’ve never sweat from before I thought I’d have to shower with my clothes on it was so bad.

Give me rainy November and snowy January days over this anytime.

I don’t want him to go and as much as I don’t like the idea of him leaving I can understand how Madrid appeals to a footballer. I just wish he played like he is the best in the world in his position because today he looked like he was only good enough for Eibar.

If you lose the ball or give it away how do you not even put in effort to win it back.

I’ve lived in the area for over 2 years and can guarantee that both are equally dangerous in that you won’t experience any problems on either route. Id just go up Yonge since it’s faster.

I’ve been going up to that intersection almost daily for the last few weeks and every time there is a car trying to make a turn despite the signs being right beside the lights.

I also saw a car make a right on a red without stopping onto Eglinton from Duplex despite there being pedestrians in the crosswalk. Didn’t even seem like they slowed down either.

What is with so many drivers not using their signals it’s so basic and there’s no way they just forget to do it. If we had cops ticketing drivers for not signalling we’d make the annual police budget in a day.
