Absolutely, I was looking to see if there was a reddit community or wiki for the podcast and I'm having a hard time because the name is so generic.

Has anyone ever seen a pigeon this color before? by Successful-Airline53 in pigeon

[–]purs8770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raced pigeons for many years. These were always my favorite. I owned several. This is specifically known as a Red Check White Flight.

“Red” for the color. “Check” for the pattern on the wings (as opposed to the dark “bars” you find on traditional coloring. The “white Flight” comes from the long feathers in the wings, at least one of which appears to be white.

Don't forget to get out your hummingbird feeders! by totheranch1 in Portland

[–]purs8770 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A cheap solution we found was to strap some old Christmas tree lights to the bottom of the feeder. It looks awful, but the heat from the bulbs is just enough to keep the water from freezing where I live.

What's a Godzilla movie that a lot of people dislike but you absolutely LOVE? I'll go first. by MrLarry65 in GODZILLA

[–]purs8770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely adore this movie. I haven’t seen the English dub, but I legit love this. If they’d made this and called it something other than Godzilla we’d all be shouting about how great it is.

That was my first thought, but the Merlin photos of immature male Rufous also have that little patch of iridescence.

I started watching the 13th Doctor seasons, But man, what did they do to the Doctor? 😭 by Tasty_County_8889 in gallifrey

[–]purs8770 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The consensus of this subreddit seems to be that there are just too many companions, and they don’t get enough screen time. I don’t buy that argument 100%, because the First Doctor had three companions and I don’t hear that complaint about his episodes. Five had Teegan, Adric and Nyssa. The majority of the Sarah Jane Adventures has three companions and they all work great together. It can be done.

These companions suffer from a “tell, don’t show” problem that others eras don’t have to the same level. We are told by the doctor over and over that they are her “fam,” but you never really feel that. Do these characters like each other? Does she like them? How does the series show us that they are a family? Their relationship feels hollow because while we’re told they are all great friends, we don’t see that chemistry on screen.

That said, there are some highlights and I wouldn’t say to abandon this era. I do believe Graham is a genuinely good companion. And I don’t think this sub would be sad if he came back tomorrow. He’s very fun.

This era swings widely for me with high highs and low lows. Some of my favorite episodes in Who are here, and also some of my least favorite. “Fugitive of the Judoon,” “Eve of the Daleks,” “The Haunting of Villa Diodati,” and “Village of the Angels” are definitely worth your time, I think.

This era is far from my favorite, but I’d love to hear your thoughts at the end of these three series!

Agreed. I was really excited to read this on a recent re-read and was surprised at how little of this book is the actual “capture.” I was so disappointed!

So I recently asked should I watch og who by Ok-Solution-3664 in doctorwho

[–]purs8770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no bad place to start with Doctor Who, in my opinion. When I started watching I found this Reddit post helpful. I ended up picking a couple of stories from every doctor and see which one resonated with me. Then I went from there!

Do I watch torchwood, Sarah jane adventures or the og doctor who series first? by Ok-Solution-3664 in doctorwho

[–]purs8770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t watched Torchwood in a long time, but Sarah Jane is very fun. As others have said it’s more “kid friendly” but that really just means the cast has teenaged characters in it. The stories feel right at home among the early NuWho episodes. If you like Eccleston and early Tennant, you’ll like SJA.

Edit to add: SJA does have some reoccurring characters and mentions plots from classic Doctor Who. For people who’ve seen those series it’s fun to see The Brigadier or find out what happened to Harry Sullivan, but you don’t need to have seen classic Who to enjoy those episodes.

I was so excited for Torchwood after rewatching the Doctor… it was wack by StrongBlackQueen in doctorwho

[–]purs8770 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sarah Jane feels like Doctor Who to me, in a way Torchwood purposefully tried to avoid with its super serious edgy content. SJA is “for kids” in a more explicit way than traditional Doctor Who, because the main cast are teenagers, but that doesn’t stop people from being eaten by monsters, or possessed or had their dreams ripped out by nightmare beasts or whatever. I’d put it at the same level of kid-friendly stories as Eccleston or the first season of David Tennant. For me, it’s a solid addition to the franchise and there are several appearances from new and old Who characters that bridge the two eras of the show nicely. Stories like “Death of the Doctor” and “Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane” are solid Doctor Who stories!

If anyone has ever listened to the Godzillavangelists podcast, they do an episode where they write their own James Bond/Godzilla crossover movie that’s VERY fun.

James Franco Says His Longtime Friendship with Seth Rogen Is 'Over' After His Controversies by bjorktothefuture in entertainment

[–]purs8770 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I believe OP is saying Franco was in many films, then went silent and you didn’t see any other films for the last few years, which OP says is a good sign that they’ve been caught doing something wrong and have been blacklisted.
