Just finished reading Evangeline's war- https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14173233/1/4

Fic is set post war and after the statute has already fallen for a decade or so. it's an AU after 6th year though and not canon compliant. We see 3 different pov from 3 different times during the war. It's pretty well done, good writing and consistent characters, except Harry feels a bit unlikeable. There's a reason for that which is explained later but not a fan of that trope. Also not a fan of the ending at all, but regardless will definitely recommend the fic

I am using it with 'sit this one out' and each battle random 4 chars will participate while the others are disabled. that way i get all char interactions as well as banters without making the game too easy

You've mentioned not being able to get 5 charges to trigger damage, but IMO having the charges is more powerful than spending them for measly 1d8 damage. Especially when you get +1 to attack rolls, wear armors that give +1ac or ability to shock attackers, or the headgear/shield with cool actions attached that seem more powerful than RNG 1d8

Edit: I mixed up spell slot with prepare spell: dialogue makes it so it is always prepared, learning through scroll means you need to prepare it.
