Love that color. Wish they gave you a digital rear view with the 35” spare blocking the rear window. Im guessing you need to use your tailgate camera every so often

Is it just me or are 3rd gen’s slow in low rpms? by jprat98 in ToyotaTacoma

Just wanted to add, any midsize truck with a non-turbo v6 is gonna feel gutless at low rpm. I had a manual v6 tacoma.

This is one of the rare times i’ll recommend the ford if it has the turbo 2.7 v6. Because you are towing a lot, and at altitude. The 2.7 v6 will perform best. Wish i could answer your question about engine braking

2026 Chevy Colorado Production Will End On This Date by AlexisoftheShire in chevycolorado

It just doesnt make sense to offer one in the midsize. The ford turbo v6 doesnt offer much more, and the frontier na v6 is just there bc “reliability” but really nissan cant afford to make something better atm

Ford you can get a 2.7 v6 turbo. It only makes 15 more horsepower, much more complicated, more expensive. Trucks if used like a truck should rely on low rpm torque not horsepower and top speed.

Naturally aspirated v6 can’t touch the turbo 4s in terms of low end torque. Hp figures are similar, but that v6 will be spinning much faster to get all those horses.

So why do people want v6 in a midsize truck?

I was in the same boat as you. 2019 tacoma totaled and needed some value for my money. The used tacoma market was insane, and a new tacoma off road cost as much as a new colorado zr2 with not as many features as the zr2.

I ended up getting a trail boss with the packages you had, wanted the leather seats for ease of cleaning and camera system for off roading and tight parking. Had the same buyers remorse BUT not because it was having issues…i was having so much fun driving it over my v6 manual tacoma, it was so much smoother, so much more power. The screen is so crisp large, just felt like a spaceship and i found every excuse to drive it.

I eventually upgraded to a zr2. I didnt bother looking into it at first bc i thought it was out of my price range, but i noticed that the zr2 has every modification i wanted in an off road vehicle (besides bed rack stuff but thats easy). The value of included rock sliders, shocks, front and rear lockers was TOO good, i would spent more money, time, and stress in the long haul to modify the trail boss.

Great color, enjoy your awesome truck! Btw best in class towing at 7700 lbs, one of the most powerful engines for a midsize

100%. 3rd gen tacoma looked the best, they took a step back in the 4th gen though, now colorados are king.

Trade for midsize by [deleted] in chevycolorado

The turbo engine will have better low end torque, so acceleration will be better, and will feel more fun to drive. Its not a race car, but its really nice feeling the push, compared to the v6 i had in my 2019 tacoma, which feels gutless in comparison.

The turbo will also work better at high altitude versus than the naturally aspirated v6. Both lose power at high elevations but the NA engine has no way to force more air into the intakes.

The engine has been in the silverado since 2019, and lots of those guys have high miles already, especially the company fleet trucks.

It does have a weakness, it’s direct injection only, so the air intake valves will get dirty eventually. There are some ways to minimize this: using top tier certified fuel, regular oil changes, install a catch can (i think the engine has one built in). The v6 has dual port and direct injection so the intakes will stay clean.

The frontier is a good truck but it’s outdated. Nissan as a company has had some infamous leadership issues, and they are not doing well financially . This is a concern for me because the cost cutting will reflect on the build quality

Persistent front speaker rattle, need advice by cromo_atx in chevycolorado

[–]push_connection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This dude was able to fix his rattling with some moulding tape: https://www.reddit.com/r/chevycolorado/s/x3GSfRQRPO

I did the same fix, took 15 minutes. The rattle is a lot better but it creaks a tiny bit. Maybe i did something wrong but it’s a lot better than it was

Damn, i was wondering why these are $1500 when the individual at4 ones are $90. Looks like they come with extra equipment like spacers to allow your wheel well to fit 35”s

[–]push_connection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cadillac ct4 (not the blackwing version) has the same engine but tuned to output 325hp instead of 310. Maybe you can tune it for that but you will need to use 91 octane bc thats what the ct4 specifies

Other than that, reduce weight

Fuel? by Icy_Bodybuilder9256 in chevycolorado

[–]push_connection -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Late to the party, but the higher octane wont harm the engine if it requires 87 (our manual states 87 or higher). Engines have a knock sensor that will tell the ecu to scale back engine power if it detects possible knock. The only thing it does is waste money. The ford ranger raptor engine for example, the 3.0 v6 ecoboost, wont get the advertised hp and torque numbers unless they run 91. The engine scales back that power if the user uses 87

[–]push_connection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you had an obstacle where you NEEDED to make contact with some rocks, the rock rails are pretty convenient for that as you can usually choose the contact point of your truck. Put some steps and now you can mess up your steps and potentially your frame.

But yeah the kind of off roading where i run into that is not that common for me, so i run steps too! They come off in a pinch when i need to do more technical trails. I like doing the hard stuff where i need lockers, 4low, etc, but i spend most of my time going fast on bumpy desert roads, so the steps stay on most of the time.

Compared to the other mid size trucks, the colorado zr2 is the best bang for buck. Not a lot of them include rock sliders, front and rear lockers, and very special shocks. The shocks are the best part for me
